George R.R. Martin states that he has "consulted on a video game out of Japan"

Get your hype train boarding passes, because while Game of Thrones may have ended, A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin is still involving himself with new projects...including a video game. In a blog post that described Martin's feelings towards Game of Thrones coming to a conclusion, he made a slight mention of having "consulted on a video game out of Japan". While this on its own is quite interesting, there have been a few rumors floating around since the start of this year, claiming that not only was there a Japanese-developed video game that would feature George R.R. Martin as the lead writer, but that it would be developed by From Software, to boot. Spawn Wave was the first to make this claim, while an "industry insider" has spoken out to another news outlet that the game has been in development for at least three years, is an open-world game, and is planned for a worldwide reveal at Microsoft's E3 conference. This claim would certainly line up with From Software's current plans of working on two unannounced games after releasing Deracine and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Regardless, we'll know if it's fact or fiction in less than a month, when Microsoft's E3 conference takes place on June 9th.

Only type of consulting he should do when it comes to story writting would be to show GoT as an example of how to NOT write a story, that show was shit quite literally unlike popular belief so kinda disappointed, was expecting something good from the "two unannounced titles"...

Interesting. I'll never say no to a Souls-like from From (assuming that's what it is), their Souls games certainly fits that same aesthetic as ASOIAF.

It'd be doubly interesting if they went in a "prequel" direction to the books, though I doubt that's what's going on.

Curious to see what'll be announced, if anything.

I don't really care much for the franchise but to me the Got universe seems more fit in a western rpg game. You know, The Witcher, Dragon Age, Elder Scrolls, "any game with hairy men, dragons and metal".

I mean, Song of Fire and Ice is considered one of the greatest fantasy book series of all time (and held that title way before HBO made it mainstream). Say what you want about the TV series, but R.R. Martin knows how to write stuff.

Umm.... okay I'm just gonna say it. Probably be made fun of but okay.

Who is this guy? :ninja:
I hav no idea also - when first took a glimpse I thought it was uncle Albert from only fools and horses:lol:
Basically the dude behind Game of Thrones.

I mean, literally all of the Souls games are based on Western RPGs? A JP dev's take, sure, but it's got just as much "hairy men, dragons, and metal" as any other western RPG does.
Yeah, I agree, though I feel Japanese style of game design is different, especially Souls which to me feels more arcadey in the same way Ninja Gaiden, Bayonetta, God of War (western I know) etc. Souls is only slower paced. I guess I'm trying to say that they feel more linear. Although Japanese games can be non-linear too.

Anyways, fans of the series would know better what they would want from a game of that universe. If it comes out there's almost 0% chance I'll play it anyways. I just think it is curious that a western franchise like this one goes to the east for its dive into video games. Not saying I'm against it, it's just interesting. I know there are other examples of that happening, especially with Capcom and Konami in the 80s/90s (i.e super heroes, d&d, cartoons and movie adaptations).
