Hello All!!! I've just owned a Wii (4.2U) for my kids. Despite it's an old cosole, it still very up to date and enjoyable. I guess it's the most enjoyable console for kids I've every seen.

My "problems " is that it has the Homebrew Channel, U-Loader by Hermes, etc, so it's not an Original but a home brewed console. It's not a problem at all, but I've bought a lot of original games such as Disney Infinity (and its hardware and figures), Guitar Hereo 5 (and the guitar hardware )and so on and when I try those games the play channel asks for "Wii System Update".

I'm new on Wii world and my first impulse was to just update. The problem is that it appears a message saying that if there is any "non original" piece of software in the console memory it can brick the Wii!!! As it's a brewed console, I'm VERY afraid to just uptade.

I've googled my problem and found some tutorials that fits somehow with the problem as they says:

"Note that the 249 slot is not actually used in our installation. This is the most common slot you will see in other tutorials (and it used to be used in this tutorial). However, if installed there, discs with 4.2 and 4.3 updates will still ask you to update, even if you are already there. Installing to the alternate slots means you can still play your discs without them messing up your USB Loading setup!" (d2x, found in gwht wikidot com)

"Note that this setup is different to the old one which use the 222, 223 and 249 slots. This is to allow discs with updates you have already performed to work without requesting further updates. You can thus safely play retail discs without worrying about overwriting your homebrew setup." (IOSes explained, found in gwht wikidot com)

Using d2x I can see that this slots are been used: 202, 222, 223, 224, 236, 247, 248, 249, 250, 254. So I'm assuming that my Homebrew was made using an "old" toturial/procedure.

I've followed all the steps from the tutorials above and the secondary from those and the only flaw I have had was regarding to StartPatch v4.2.6U. When I try the StartPatch it fails with the Es_Identify ErrorError: -1029. This StartPatch would be the piece os software that could skip the system update check (!?!)

Using SysCheck HacksDen Edition I've got the file IOSsyscheck.txt with this info inside:

It's fine to update, has been like that for years. As long as you're not using a really outdated method, everything will work fine after the update.

Thank you for reply. So you mean that I can go ahead with the Nintendo's update fearless, despite it says that if the update finds any "non original stuff" it could brick my console? Man, I'm shaking just to imagine any brick after that... I'm sorry for the double checking; just to really be certain that I've correctly understood your message. Many thanks

Yep, it's perfectly safe. The worst that will happen, and it's if you're using a >10 year old exploit, is the console will remove those channels and mods. What method did you use to mod? Letterbomb? Bannerbomb?

I really don't know. I've just owned this Wii 3 days ago... It came already modded... What I know: Wii 4.2;. Homebrew Channel 1.1.0 IOS58 v24.32; Uloader 5.1D-Tecvuca... "Non original" media can be played directly from the console's DVD reader (hability that, as someone wrote in some post I've read, new Nintendo's update would remove)

Just checked to be sure, the HBC will work on the latest version since HBC 1.0.7, so it's safe :)

Once again, MANY THANKS!!! Just to my learning and understanding: If it's safe to do the Nintendo's update, why there's "hacks" to skipe this update (like te StartPatch, for example)? What will I loose with the update (if any)?

Look at this "Doom Day" info I've found

An accidental upgrade is most likely to happen if you play a game that includes an update check and you haven't disabled Wii's update checking. When a new Wii update is available from Nintendo, you are notified, but you can refuse the update. If you don't refuse, your Wii upgrades and your Homebrew Channel disappears.

Wii updates 4.2 and 4.3 were both specifically designed to kill homebrew. If you have lost homebrew but can still use your Wii, be happy about that, because sometimes the updates made Wiis unusable.

lifewire com -> how-do-i-play-games-that-require-a-system-update-2498310

I would love to have the StartPatch working without the Es_Identify ErrorError: -1029 so I could simply disable the uptades... Don't you know how to do that?

This was back when Wii updates were regular and could and would break mods. Since there hasn't been an update in years pretty much every homebrew modification has been updated. I wouldn't expect an update to come anytime soon since almost all official online functionality is long gone.

Problems... I've tried the update and got this:

Important: It has been found that this error code may appear during a Wii SystemUpdate if a Wii console has been modified to run unofficial software. ... We strongly recommend updating your Wii using a Cable, DSL, or FiberOptics Internet service.
Error Code: 32004 - 32007 | Nintendo Support

So the update "knows" that there is an unofficial software in my console (afraid!). Any idea? Furthermore: does it still safe to update?

I've made the system update. To do that I needed to reinstall Priiloeader and after that I was able to update.

Now I have a new issue... After the update I can't read my backup discs; only the originals are playing... Any tip/hint???

Finishing this saga, here is the gran finale: After the system update and the Priiloader instalation wii lost the hability to run backup discs directly by the Disc Channel, but it's perfect readable using U-Loader, for exeample. In a nutshell: problem solved.
