Hardware Trying to get audio to work with 3DS NTR, but nothing's working

So, I ordered the proper male to male jack wire(4 rings, 3.5mm), I got a mic/headphone splitter because my laptop, a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E540, has a merged jack that needs a splitter for this stuff as a result, an audio splitter so that I can listen to the audio while recording it, and yet no matter what I do, I can't seem to successfully record 3DS audio. It doesn't show up in OBS Studio for Audio Input, and it doesn't show up in Audacity as a mic or whatever.

Am I doing something wrong? Because I got all the wires that should be necessary, and yet nothing is working. I'm not gonna have to buy yet ANOTHER item like a USB sound card, am I? Please help!

Even thought the port has an icon that's a headphone with a mic on it like most gaming headsets?

Didn't work. Apparently, all my options are 2 channel, but it didn't seem to work. Is there anything specific I have to look for in OBS or something? You sure I can't just use a USB Sound Card and use whatever mic jack it has instead?

Dude, I did everything in that video to a T. I made sure to watch it in full. I messed with the internal mic, lowered microphone boost, switched it to CD quality 2 channel tab, and you're just gonna claim that I didn't watch? Come on, man. You should know better than this.

Okay, so, you gave me a solution you knew was more likely not gonna work? Are you telling me to get a USB sound card now despite you telling me no before? You're kinda sending mixed signals here.

So, you tell me not to get a USB Sound Card, show me a video that isn't a definite answer, tell me to watch the first minute detailing USB sound cards to just get that, when we could've avoided spending the past hour on this issue by you just saying I should get one, in the first place?
