Epic Games is set to receive a BAFTA award for their contribution to game development

Epic-Games-reveal-update-plans-for-the-remainder-of-2018.jpg

During this upcoming E3, the British Academy of Film and Television will be giving a "Special Award" to a gaming company that has innovated the gaming industry, and has made a huge contribution to gaming as a whole. That company is Epic Games. BAFTA will be honoring Epic Games with a title that only eight others have held since the inception of the award in 2003, recognizing their impact to gaming as a whole, through the creation of the Unreal Engine, Fortnite, and Gears of War. Previous winners of the Special Award consist of Nolan North, for his voice acting performance in many major games, "Markus Notch" Persson for Minecraft, and Amy Hennig for her writing in the Uncharted and Legacy of Kain series. Though Epic Games has left an immeasurable mark on gaming history, this award comes at a controversial time, with the Epic Game Store still receiving negative press, and multiple reports of "endless" 70-hour work weeks due to development crunch from overtired employees.

We are delighted to present this year’s Special Award to Epic Games. Having powered the creativity and imaginations of development teams of all sizes over the years – many of whom have gone on to win BAFTAs - it’s right to mark their huge contribution with this Special Award as part of BAFTA’s commitment to celebrating and promoting the very best in games. Epic is at the forefront of the evolution of the global games industry and the impact of their innovation is undeniable.

What in the actual fuck is this bullshit. I wanna go over to Britain and smack whoever's idea it was to give THEM an award. THEM? EPIC? You make me laugh so hard that my laughter was heard 3 states away and then that entire state laughed their ass off and it was heard over 7 states away in Washington, D.C where President Donald Trump said "Okay, let's fuck Epic and ban it".

Epic Games has done nothing but fuck over the entire gaming industry and all of us gamers alike around the world. They are fucking us like hell...why do they deserve an award for it?

IF YOU ARE GOING TO GIVE ANYBODY AN AWARD GIVE IT TO VALVE...THEY ARE NOT IMMATURE, SPYING ASSHATS WHO FUCK OVER THE GAMING INDUSTRY! I'M ABOUT TO COME TO BRITAIN AND KICK SOME ASS!!!!!!!!

God...I got mad lol...but I am right...click 'Like" if you agree.
If Yr gonna come to the UK and kick arse then pop in one of our toy shops and buy a Donald trump shit coming out of his arse squishy:lol:

The timing isn't very fortunate, but considering all the genuine contributions to the industry (from iconic franchises to Unreal Engine), it's still well deserved. Their recent pooparoo doesn't take away much from that.

How some you guys act like a 2019 Guy. Truely offended by something that doesn't affect you at all.

It would be hard to overlook all the good things Epic has done over the years. The Unreal Engine has become an industry staple and powered some of the most beloved series of all time. Not only that, average users get to fiddle with it too, often times ending up making games of their own. Think what you will about their store, Epic deserves the nomination - an award for their contribution to gaming is long overdue.

Oh please, what the fuck has Valve done these past 5 years? Nothing! A fucking card game meant to capitalize on the success of Hearthstone? Amazing!
Valve has been stagnant for years.
They added a refund policy and is still one of the few PC stores to have one. They cracked down on non relevant comments on games that were made to make the company look bad. Actively remove/ban games that contain spyware and malware and in some instances refunded the users for the games if requested(I think, could of been hear say). Found out that CS:GO was being used to attract underage gambling and quickly stopped the places that did that and went after the company's doing it. Redesigned the UI to better work with more hardware out of the box. Supported a FUCK TON to Vulcan/Linux support for games so they could run on Linux even if it was not made for it and did a great job in my opinion. I'm sure I can find more that was in the past 5 years only if you need.

How about forming the entire VR Market into a Streamlined, Open SDK that can be used across all Headsets? How about inventing Lighthouse, the best VR Tracking Solution there is and Open Sourcing it? How about makeing Linux vaiable for Gaming with Proton? They did hell of a lot more to help the Customer that Epic did.

EGS not complying with GDPR.
EGS and the possible spyware deal.
EGS messing with Steam data without a user’s express input.
EGS fracturing the PC gamer user base.
EGS buying up Rocket League, saying they’d remove it from Steam, and then trying to walk it back cuz people got pissed.
And so on and so forth. Even if one loves Epic, it’s incredibly clear that there is controversy at every turn when it comes to the EGS, even when not considering the exclusivity deals.

I mean...I specifically mentioned what Epic has done, in the OP. They created one of the most important engines in the industry, and without it, we wouldn’t have some of the biggest games that we do. They can be shady, sure, and Tim Sweeney doesn’t help that, but it can’t be argued that Epic has helped game development prosper in the past.
I cant speak for you, but most people speaking out against epic dont really even care about any of that except that it lets them trash Epic. Most of these people trashing Epic praise google who have done a hell of a lot worse.
