Hey guy's i just bought a used Wii U from a local Goodwill but it still has the original owner account on it with parental controls on it, How can i completely format the system back to default settings. I called Nintendo to see if they could help but all the processes i went through with them didn't work. It seems the system is still on software 4.10u which doesn't have a feature Nintendo needs to reset the account. With the system powered on i can't even access anything as it immediately goes to the user login display with no way around it. What can i do to format the system.

You don´t see your inquiry number ? You have to choose forget pin option.

Thats not good.:(

When you start the console you are able to select the previous user's account (password protected) or "Add New User" (which requires a Parental Controls PIN)

Without a password your only option is to create a new user account. You could guess the 4-digit Parental Controls PIN but it'll probably take a while trying every number from 0000 to 9999.

Sorry.:(

maybe a NAND dump? I'm not sure if this is possible. you can retrieve a parental pin number from a NAND dump on the 360, so it's just a suggestion, if it's even possible.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the Wii U download and update itself when connected to internet? Why not plug in a usb ethernet port and hook it up to a router and watch it update to a firmware where Nintendo's tricks work? The adapters come pretty cheap. Homebrewing it still works if you update it.

yes, you can block updates by deleting the update folder, by dns, or by manually blocking the urls with something like cc proxy if your router doesn't support blocking. if you use cc proxy, you'll only be able to connect to the internet as long as the computer it's connected to is on and cc proxy is open. also, the wii u only supports 2.4Ghz, so if your pc is using 5Ghz, it won't make a connection. ftp will still work though.

@godreborn you're a bit ahead of what I was suggesting. I get that you're saying with his nand dump he could connect to the internet with it if running it through cemu. However my solution is simpler: just plug a usb ethernet adapter into the wii u, power it on and watch it update. Then proceed to remove the parental pin. Hopefully this works cus a nand dump, while possible, is a lot of work.

the parental controls should still be present after updating. it is on the 360 anyway. I'd imagine that that is recorded in the user data portion of the NAND, which is maintained after an update.

There's hope for a Xenosaga port.

This won't be a problem anymore.

Quick update

I was able to force the system to update which is now on 5.5.3 and Nintendo was successfully able to remove the parental controls and user account so i was able to format the system. I than changed the DNS settings to prevent future updates if any.

So how were you able to force it?
I clicked i forgot password and kept hitting the send request button. Eventually another screen popped up prompting me to connect to the internet than did it again and another screen stated i needed to update before i could send request, so i clicked update and it went through the process and Nintendo was able to reset everything.

Found fix for this Issue. Could not find the answer from any forums or anywhere on Google. Simply just called Nintendo and they walked me through how to get past Parental lock and Nintendo ID lock. Only needed to provide them the console serial number on back of console

Dont remember exact steps, but secret buttons to press:

  • On one of the Forgot pins menu, i was instructed to press and hold these buttons: “-” “+” and “Y” buttons.
  • a new menu should pop up
  • Nintendo support person provided me master key.
Hope this helped enough to fix your issue!!!
