Tetris 99 now has offline modes as DLC

Tetris 99 has been a fairly popular game for Nintendo Switch Online users, but if you're more of an offline player, you'll still be able to get in on the fun as well, through the game's newly revealed Big Block Season Pass. This will allow for offline matches against the CPU, pitting you against 98 bots in the "CPU Battle Mode", or will let you play a "Marathon" mode to see how long you can last. A third offline mode is included, but won't be released until later this year. While Tetris 99's online mode can be played for free, assuming you have Nintendo Switch Online, you can grab the offline Big Block DLC for $9.99.

Another Grand Prix event will also be held in the game on May 17th, where you earn event points. Obtain 100 of them, and you'll unlock a Game Boy skin, which makes the game look like it once did on the classic handheld.

So you get for "free" a game you actually get by paying for the Sub and can play while the sub lasts but you have to pay extra to play against bots in a game you stop being able to play if the subs runs out?

YEP. Sounds right to me. Nothing wrong there at all.

What a load of bullshit. Games should never be forced to be played online. I avoid games like that and to play this game offline, you have to pay for it? This logic is very twisted and nonsense.

This is such a stupid comment. Not all games are DESIGNED to be played offline. Not every game is meant to cater exactly to you. You're not the center of the universe.

They're free to charge what they want for the game, however they want. News flash, they're the ones who created it. Did you know creating games costs money? Shocking I know. I too thought games just grew on the videogame tree.
Too bad the common sense tree is also fictional because you could really use an orchard of those.

What do you not understand with this?:
Games should never be forced to be played online.

You are really overreacting...

You can literally Google search "tetris" and a million sites pop up where you can play for free
including tetris.com, which is easy enough to remember that you don't need to search it

I bought the dlc earlier today despite having not played the game. I'm trying to buy all dlc for each game I have. I've also been downloading nsp and xci versions of every game I have. I bought all games digitally, so I wanted some reassurance for when the switch eshop goes down. I didn't download this game nor the nes collection, since they require online. however, does this mean that an nsp can be played without signing in? I thought the nes collection and this game had to phone home every 7 days? is that still true at least with tetris 99?

Oh my god what on earth have they done with the ghost blocks? I never thought I was a graphics whore but I genuinely have been playing this game less since they changed the style to the ugly mess they are now.

Don't just repeat yourself; justify your comment. Why should games never be forced to be played online?

The offline modes are decent enough. I'm not gonna comment on the value for money, because it doesn't pertain directly to how I obtained the dlc..

Otherwise you have to be always-online. Some of the Ubisoft games required to be always online. And there is a certain amount of games you cannot play story mode because maybe router or ISP has trouble sometimes. Or servers are stopped.

Yea there's no story-mode in 99, though, is there? It's a free multiplayer Tetris battle for people who subscribe to Switch online...
