I've been playing the Wii pretty consistently for over 10 years. Between emulators, Gamecube games and the Wii library, my console gets a pretty heavy workout. I actually just beat The Last Story for the first time a few days ago.

When I look around online, it's like the rest of the "gaming" world has moved on. It's hard to find forums for discussion that aren't completely abandoned, or incredibly slow. Even with the advent of online servers via wimmfi, It's hard to get a game going outside of Smash Bros and Mario Kart. This bums me out because the Wii is probably my favorite console and I would love to find a niche of fans with the same passion for the system. I have a Switch and and XBOX One, but I always come back to the Wii at some point. The library is criminally underrated, the once-booming homebrew scene gave us amazing things like the ability to play foreign-release Gamecube and Wii games, emulators, ability to play certain arcade-exclusives and so much more. I'll admit it has some pitfalls, mostly with the overuse of motion controls in some titles, but it doesn't deter me from spending time with it.

Is there any others out there that feel the same? Are you still devoting your time to the little white box?

I make homebrew from time to time so I hang around here for that. Not much to discuss really. The wii scene is like a football - its perfect, nothing to change - nothing much to improve. Reddit has a little bit of discussion but its mostly just noobs like for tutorials or help.

The Wii is a great console. I have had a great number of memories from the little white beast. There are still loads of games I need to go back and play, but I haven't played a proper Wii in a long while. Certain games I have loaded up were on the PC with Dolphin to see what they would look like on "real" or unrestricted hardware. Xenoblade Chronicles in particular. Super Mario Galaxy 1/2 are some of my favorite games of all time. I do wish that Brawl was a better game at its base. I feel like the Wii library is a bit fractured in that sense. Luckily you can use something like Nintendont to play Melee. I am thinking about getting a cheap wii somewhere and physically modding it. I want to remove the disk tray and shove a harddrive into the empty space. I would route the USB out the back so you can plug it back into the Wii (for use) as well as being able to load games directly onto the system.

The Wii community is still alive to this day. Lets say it isn´t very active, but people are still working on Wiimmfi, RiiConnect24 and the Open Shop Channel in the homebrwe community. And with a huge library of games you can play alone or together, some people are still sitting in front of this small little box.
Heck, even some school friends of mine never got anything else than a Wii, and still own only a Wii to this very day.

I still play some Wii games occasionally, but mainly just replaying games. I've recently been replaying Skyward Sword again for the first time since it came out, just taking a break from it right now, and I recently replayed Super Paper Mario. I prefer playing on Dolphin though as the games just look so much better in HD.

I have a few Wii games I never completed that I probably should. Mainly Tales of Symphonia 2 (after I complete the first one since I never completed that either) and Arc Rise Fantasia. For those who still love the classic style of JRPGs Arc Rise Fantasia scratches that itch pretty well, I can recommend it.

This thread warms my heart!

I think the reason I continue to go back is because of the open-endedness in terms of homebrew and the prices. Wii and it's games are dirt cheap. You're gonna pay a little more for the more "rare" titles but lots of great games out there are priced fairly, especially used titles.

I still use mine at least twice a week, I've got RiiConnect24, and Wiimmfi set up, so I check the Mii Parade and Everybody Votes channel every now and again.
I've been playing through Pokemon Rumble again, and having a lot of fun with Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, and New Super Mario Bros Wii.

I do really like that I can play MKW online, and it is a lot of fun, but I miss playing other games online.

Even with the advent of online servers via wimmfi, It's hard to get a game going outside of Smash Bros and Mario Kart. This bums me out because the Wii is probably my favorite console and I would love to find a niche of fans with the same passion for the system.

Precisely my problem too, because I'm not a HUGE Mario Kart fan, and while I adore Brawl (I probably spent the most time in it overall), I don't really like playing online. I'd like to find people to play Dr. Mario, AC:CF and Pokemon Battle Revolution with, but posting my FC in multiple places has lead to no such luck.

It's sad, because, much like @SnackJr, I'd consider the Wii one of my favorite consoles-- it certainly had a huge impact on my childhood, along with the DS Lite.

Certainly. I just restarted playing a bit. Currently, on Metroid Prime 2. On the Wii side of things... Not much, but I'm going to try and buy a second Wii in about 15 minutes. 25€, with Skylanders, and.the base. Also, the console is black.

@BORTZ, I like the idea of removing the DVD drive. Tell me how.

My Wii has been plugged since I bought it in 2010 and has seen constant (and I do seriously mean constant) use since then. It's pretty much impossible to replace for me, it gives access to way too many games from different decades of gaming with simplicity.

If someone would have told me this thing would become the gaming system that would end up getting the most time out of me I would have laughed... Yet here I am, a few weeks back I was playing Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity and achieving the best times in a few tracks on the online leaderboards through Wiimmfi. Lol.

But really, beyond emulation (which is by itself pretty damn important) and the well known games both for GC and Wii, the Wii has way too many other games to check, some small and quirky, and I love delving into those sort of games as much as I did on before it on the PS2 (with games like Chu Lip or Mr. Mosquito for example). GC also has its own interesting obscure games, like Ribbit King which I can't stop going back to.

Yesterday in fact I was replaying Art Style: Penta Tentacles / Rotozoa and trying a game named Help Wanted: 50 Wacky Jobs, a Hudson title before they were eaten by Konami. The videos I saw before deciding trying it out made it look kinda "meh", although to be fair Classic Game Room Undertow has the ability to make most games look uninteresting...

But I have to say that the two hours or so I spent playing it passed pretty quickly, I was having a lot of fun with it. The overall silliness in both the story and the game itself, the hook of the game and how fast-paced it is made me keep playing, and the music is way catchier than I expected, that helps too (I'll have to look to rip it, as it seems nobody has done it yet).

Games like that or Fishing Resort are very neat findings that keep me looking in the system's library.

And hey, the Wii itself is still commercially alive in a way!

Recent information shared by Nintendo showed that the Wii still sells games, and in 2018 at leas 260.000 copies from different Nintendo titles were sold. 100.000 for Mario Kart Wii, 60.000 for New Super Mario Bros. Wii, 30.000 for Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and a few others too.

I don't know about any of you, but for me that's insane!
In fact, Wii sold more Nintendo physical games in 2018 than the Wii U, which amounts to 190.000, and the titles mentioned above sold more than the Wii U successors. Mario Kart Wii sold 5 times more to be precise!

No, just because I bricked mine 2 weeks ago :)

So I bought a GC to replace it, given that I mostly using it for GC games anyway

Fully agreeing with your "last glorious console where developers were forced to push out a quality product by mastering date" principle (though Dragon Quest is a notable exception :P )

The Wii is my favorite console. I am still working on it. I actually am getting my hands on a shit load of wii's and I am going to be building a portable wii system with my son. I have a project on my wii that I am currently working on as well. I will never stop playing with my wii, until the day I die, which might come sooner than later... hopefully.

I am trying to get my hands on a wii mini and try hacking it.

I plan on buying one of those Wii Dual HDMI mods and doing it to a few wii's.

@BORTZ, I like the idea of removing the DVD drive. Tell me how.
Well, you simply disassemble the optical drive, removing all metal/optical/mechanical parts, leaving just the main frame and electronics (which are required, unless you only use software that doesn't depend on it - PortabilizeMii likely has a workaround)

Send it my way.
Even if it's an unremarkable horizontal model (not the one pictured above) worth half of the shipping cost? :P
