Repo Update
New branches added. These are RBHP upgrade information for DLC released on the Rock Band Network between 2007 and 2010. If you don't have the DLC already, then these probably will be little use to you unless you have a friend who has downloaded them. Please do not get the downloadable DLC off of the internet, as it promotes piracy and could be corrupted or tampered with!

If you are using git pull to get the software, I suggest you run it again to get the new changes. Else, download a new ZIP, extract it to your project directory, and let it overwrite your existing files.

Tutorial Update
The Known Issues tab has been updated to allow one to easily follow the links to threads I've started on certain issues. Although some are solved now, if you have any of those issues and the answers did not resolve your problem, feel free to post on those threads.

Hello.:)

Thank you for your time and your work on "custom" Rockband 3.
It´s very good to know there is a good guide/manual on ONE place and you don´t have to search the whole internet and you have to "scrape up" infos about making your own songs.

:yay:

Wiki Updates
Over several days, I made a few edits, both minor and major. Here are the most significant:
  • After looking at the RawkSD list (archived on the Wayback Machine), I discovered that the first four (sZAE through sZDE) actually work with Rock Band 2. This makes me confused as to how many generations are actually compatible with both Rock Band versions, so I re-edited in an attempt to state how many I think are compatible. If anyone has proof to support or disprove this, please leave a comment to me somewhere (preferably here). Once I can confirm this, I'll update both the wiki and tutorial with this information.
  • The section on Album Make now has it's own wiki page: How to Create Custom Album Covers using Album Make.
  • I assume the list from RawkSD proves that each song takes up slots 001/002 to 507/508 only (a total of 254 songs). If it is possible to reach up to a higher number, please comment and link to sources.

I've been testing several USB Loaders. So far, USB Loader GX has been the most user-friendly and has the most customization options. I'm also trying out CFG USB Loader and WiiFlow (now called WiiFlow Lite, though it has all the same features and more). If anyone has problems with Rock Band 3 through a USB Loader, comment here or open up a new thread and link me to it.

Tutorial Update
The tutorial now has the How to Create Custom Album Covers using Album Make wiki page text in the tab "Album Make"! This enhances somewhat on the original by giving step-by-step instructions on how to make your own album covers that will appear in Rock Band 3 for Wii.

The tutorial will be updated infrequently for errors and small enhancements, but if you want to get the most out of importing custom songs, please read my GitLab wiki!

Repo and Wiki Updates
Shew!!! I did a lot of work on the wiki guide today, plus I moved the sZGE and sZHE packers to the Master branch and deleted the Beta branch.

Some things I did on the wiki guide:
  • A lot more can be explained, thanks to Atruejedi on Customs Creators! This includes better descriptions of terms, content generations, and mathematics on packing songs.
  • WiiFlow link was added to provide another USB Loader alternative.
  • Better video descriptions, so you know what to expect before clicking. Thanks to StackOverflow0x for the awesome videos!
  • More links to other wiki pages, as well as links to a couple of GitLab repo issues.
  • A direct link to C3's Rock Band 3 Wii Customs Manager, and some instructions on how to use it.

If you are using git pull to get the software, I suggest you run it again to get the new changes. Else, download a new ZIP, extract it to your project directory, and let it overwrite your existing files.

Wiki Updates
  • Expanded the wiki page on PAL packing. If anyone knows where there are more of these DLC packers for PAL, leave me a link!
  • Shortened the DTA section in How Each File in the DLC Works, and redirected to my DTA wiki page.
  • Reserved a new wiki page on importing Xbox and Playstation content for Rock Band 3 for Wii. Coming soon!
  • Eventually, I want to add an additional guide for hacking for Rock Band 2 for Wii, but for now, I expanded the existing wiki page on Rock Band 2 and Rock Band 3 cross-compatibility.

...Plus other minor edits and enhancements. You are welcome to browse the page history of my wiki pages and see the changes.

Double checked the files left by Koetsu at http://ge.tt/8f2aVwf. I discovered that I had forgotten another packer! So I added it.

If you are using git pull to get the software, I suggest you run it again to get the new changes. Else, download a new ZIP, extract it to your project directory, and let it overwrite your existing files.

Wiki and Tutorial Updates
I realized that a crucial step on getting instruments to be recognized was missing in both the wiki guide and the tutorial. I added the line about, and link to, the Complete Softmod Guide's guide on installing custom IOSes 249 and 250. Make sure to change the IOS settings in the USB Loader that you want to use so that the USB detection can work!

A tweak here, an addition there... slowly but surely, this project is coming together. If only I had help...

The GitLab repository name "Rock Band 3 for Wii - Custom Songs" is now "Rock Band Customs". In the future, I want my repository and wiki to be about not just hacking Rock Band 3, but also Rock Band 2, and perhaps other Rock Band titles for the Wii that also have DLC (i.e. Rock Band: The Beatles). That may include more wiki pages and more GBAtemp tutorials, so stay tuned to the comments of this tutorial for updates!

I'm in contact with StackOverflow0x/Koetsu, who posted the original RB3 hacking guide and developed some of the C3 software. He suggested some edits which I've made, and I'm hoping to get his help on some of the issues I'm having. I suggest you go check out his work on Customs Creators, if you need further assistance in all things Rock Band for Wii!

Repo and Wiki Updates
The Out-Of-Sync Songs issue have been solved! This requires a bit of editing on the end-user's part, but if one wants to use the Wii versions of Rock Band MOGGs that are out of sync, the handy new Rock Band DLC Tools by MahoppianGoon (new to the repo - the tools themselves are nearly ten years old!) and the new wiki page Manually Syncing Rock Band Songs from Rock Band Discs should help any amateur hacker get the songs in sync once more!

If you are using git pull to get the software, I suggest you run it again to get the new changes. Else, download a new ZIP, extract it to your project directory, and let it overwrite your existing files.

Several issues have been solved, and I'm now able to use the files from my Rock Band Wii game discs. However, it requires modifying the MOGG files, as well as replacing BIK with MOGGs, and editing the DTAs. It's more work than I thought it would be, but to get it done right, it's well worth the effort. Of course, you can always take shortcuts...

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
