Persona 5S revealed as Persona 5: Scramble for the Nintendo Switch

We now know what the mysterious Persona 5S is. Atlus has announced Persona 5: Scramble - The Phantom Strikers. Developed in tandem with Omega Force and Koei Tecmo, the game will be a Musou-style action RPG. It'll launch on both the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.

Why does Switch get so many Dynasty Warriors clones?

Also seriously guys, Switch is getting Shin Megami Tensei V. It's ok if it doesn't get Persona 5.
Let the Playstation people enjoy their spin-off series of a spin-off series. While Switch people enjoy just a regular spin-off series.

Or just emulate it. :P I plan to emulate it this Summer when I buy my new CPU, because the new processors drop this Summer!

You're kidding right? It's neck and neck with the PS4. A main line Pokemon hasn't released yet, and they're most likely going to release a cheaper Switch this year. And you're trying to tell me that the Switch sales are going to go down? And Japan does matter to Atlus, a shit ton of their sales come from Japan, that's why they're going to release Persona R in Japan first, and then world wide like 6 months later.

I'm going to trust the video game senior industry analyst over your word.
No, I am not kidding.

Many people talk about "head to head with PS4" and whatever, but just take a look at the real worlwide sales numbers. My graph is based on that, currently there are more than 92 million PS4 consoles sold worldwide (compared to ~33 million Switches), and if you check the graph I made you can estimate the progression.

The Switch is selling very well in Japan only. I am not kidding, I just stopped repeating what other people was saying and went to look into the numbers myself, because I don't like playing Chinese whispers really, better to go look for the hard numbers than listening speculation going from mouth to mouth.

Regarding that Japan matters to Atlus, I agree, and that is the reason I stated "perhaps ports to the west will not be as profitable" instead of "games won't be released in Japan".

PS: The PS1, PS2, PS4, etc. all also had "hardware revisions" and "cost reductions", those are already taken into account in those graphs, and you can compare how the curve falls in time normally for a console along its lifetime.

What? It's moved 14 million units in the US, and 12.5 million outside of the US and Japan. Japan's sales are at around 8.2 million.

Read the context. The Switch is selling very well in Japan only, compared to the PS4.
Check the graph and you will understand what I mean.

The Switch is about to surpass PS4 lifetime sales in Japan only, if you consider worldwide sales the PS4 is 60 millions ahead.

This. Why not have all the Persona games in it? I wanna play as Persona 3 characters, because that's the only Persona I've played, and liked it!
If the previous spinoffs of the Persona series are anything to go by, there might actually be characters from the earlier games (most likely P3 and P4) involved. P4A, P4AU, and PQ had the cast from P3/P4, while PQ2 has the cast from P3-P5 (including the female mc from P3P). Unlike the dancing games (which are confined to their respective game's cast, not counting certain DLC characters), this musuo title would be a nice way to give everyone an update on how the cast from P3/P4 are doing and show us how the latter have grown up so far. If not, it would be really lackluster to only have 9 playable characters (ie. The Phantom Thieves, including Akechi and Kasumi), unless they also let you play as some of the bosses and NPCs (I'd be hyped for Iwai blazing in with his guns or Sojiro as a gag character attacking with a multitude of coffee blends.) to up the roster.

All the Persona spinoffs released so far are canon (yes, even the dancing games, despite the latter two being a dream apparently), so there wouldn't be a reason not to have the other games' cast members involved. I'm just hoping it's not time travel shenanigans again, because I'm dying to see everyone's current/future looks in 3D.

Well, that's not exactly a fair comparison with how much longer PS4 has been available. The fact that Switch is passing its sales anywhere in the world already is very impressive, and PS4 is also going to hit end of life much sooner than Switch. That's when the gap will really start closing fast.

That's the reason I made a graph and I projected the sale curves.
Sales are never linear in growth, they decay.
Still I estimated 6 full fiscal years of sales giving the Switch a generous linear growth estimation.
Even in this case, it still falls behind the PS4, and behind the PS3/360 lifetime sales.

As I said, check the graph.

We'll just have to wait and see. Either way it's pretty obvious that Nintendo will end up at least in second, with Microsoft as the biggest loser of this generation.

Well, actually even if it sells around 80 million EoL it is a good amount of sales (only behind PS3/360/PS4) so it shouldn't be a problem I guess.

It is selling well, only that if I try not to be biased and estimate what might happen based on current numbers I conclude that it will never surpass the PS4 worldwide. Sure something surprising might happen, but I think it would be more unbiased to go by the numbers.

Am I surprised? No. Disappointed? Yes. I was looking forward to getting into the Persona series with the port but I guess that's not happening...

Ah well, at least RPCS3 exists.
