Hi,

So I am thinking of purchasing a New 3DS XL and wanted to ask three questions before I order it.

1. Does it matter what firmware/model New 3DS XL is at this point or are all New 3DS XL hackable?
2. If I wanted to order a Japanese New 3DS LL is it possible to install English emunand firmware?
3. Have a Gateway flash cart from my regular 3DS would it still be usable or do you even need a flash cart at this point? (do you run games directly off memory card now)?
4. How difficult is it to exploit a New 3DS XL/LL these days to get emunand up and running and Luma?

Thanks

1. All hackable

2. Yes and lose eshop and game updates

3. EmuNAND is useless now

It is "safe" to connect online on CFW?
If emunade is old hat now, can I just install English firmware on my a Japanese system and access english eshop/updates or no?

Eshop will always be broken on a region change can't be fixed and yes it's totally save to use online

Thanks for your help.

If it is safe to go online why does that image say to turn wifi/friend/spotpass off?

One last question for your:
Was Pearl White New 3ds XL released in USA or was that Japanese only?

Because sending system data to Nintendo will get your 3ds banned

WiFi on is fine not anything else

No

Everything is safe, as long as you disable sending information, don't cheat online or play games before the release date.
Nope. You can't access eshop from different regions.

I do not think I would really care about playing online. Hell, won't the eshop be shut down for 3ds sometime soon anyway?
As for game updates, couldn't game files be found pre patched?

But as far as changing region goes, that will change system language too correct? Japanese->English?
How does that work if no longer using emunand? You are actually changing system OS? Can you go back after?
Would you update to newest firmware on Japanese OS then "convert" to English OS?

Updates r a seperate title id never "packed" or "pre-patched" into the game itself

And no I can't go back to what it originally was

And no u don't update and "convert" anything from one Lang to another

So how does it work then? I would still be on Japanese system software, but language would be English and the 3DS would try to connect to NA servers instead (but it can't)?

Alright, well, I will figure it out more in a few weeks. Ordered the Japanese one as I wanted white.

Guess I will update to the newest firmware on Japanese account, download a DSiWare game and check for updates for the one Japanese 3DS game I have and go from there.

It's correct I need a FLashcart for Luma CFW?

Looks like the below is the no flash cart option?

1. Nope. Certain firmwares are easier to hack than others but any new 3DS from a store is likely to be on a new enough firmware that they all use the same exploit methods anyway.

2. It's a pain in the ass and you lose eShop access as mentioned. I wouldn't recommend it, I don't think you'd be saving much money by importing one anyway. Just buy a US region one.

3. Usable, but pointless. Gateway is more trouble than it's worth, it won't work on the latest firmware so no online, and there are workarounds by installing a partial firmware update, which sometimes will not work for unknown reasons and will brick you and require reflashing the NAND or restoring a NAND backup and then you're back to square one (this happened to me and that's when I finally decided to ditch Gateway because getting Gateway working on the latest firmware with the workaround would have been just as much work as ditching Gateway)
Gateway also has less features than the free CFW available now. The one thing they do have is .3ds ROM loading, which is more convenient than .cia installs, and games are sometimes easier to find in .3ds format, although they can be easily converted in seconds if you use https://github.com/ihaveamac/3dsconv/ along with a boot9.bin backup you can either get from your own console or find online. They can also be converted on the 3DS with GodMode9 but that's a slow process.

4. http://3ds.hacks.guide is the guide you'll want to use, it looks complicated but most of the steps are just downloading and copying files. In other words, it's not hard at all, just time consuming. You'll want to double check that you follow every step in order so you don't get any issues. As a first timer (to 3DS CFW, as the original Gateway setup was quite a bit simpler to install, though it was more of a hassle in actual use) you can expect to spend 2-3 hours on following the guide. If you've done it before and you're familiar with the steps they can be done in less than an hour. Or 10-15 minutes if you have all the files ready in advance.

Couldn't help myself and ordered the Japanese New 3DS LL Pearl White. It was about $30 cheaper then the USA New 3DS XL Black ones on Amazon.
Had a $90 credit on Amazon so cost under $100. Wanted it to match my Japanese Ceramic White PSP. ^_^

Anyway, I was thinking, I have an OLD 3DS XL USA version running firmware 4.5.0-10U with Gateway that I haven't used in long ass time.
Couldn't I change the region on the JPN NEW 3DS and use the USA OLD 3DS to access eshop/game updates and then copy them to the JPN NEW 3DS?
That is, once I ditch the Gateway and get them both updated to the latest CFW w/ Luma (really want to try out the CPU overclocking with New 3DS).
The Japanese system will arrive next Monday so I will wait and see what firmware it has before I get going.

Both consoles are going to be using different encryptions. You could download what you need on the old 3ds and use gm9 to create dumps of the items to install on the new console

You could if you dump them to .cia. But anything n3DS exclusive won't be downloadable on the o3DS.
It's also possible to clone the movable.sed in NAND, that way the SD data will be usable on both consoles and you can just move the SD over. It should be faster than dumping to .cia, but you'll still need to dump the ticket as the data won't be displayed if the ticket is missing, ticket can be installed with FBI. Tickets are stored on NAND so simply moving the SD is not enough.

Well believe it or not, the "new" New 3DS LL I ordered from amazon turned out to be used.
Already open, games installed and figure prints all over the screen. So returned it ASAP.

So guess I have a chance to do this over again...

So here are the options and I have a $92 credit on amazon.
3rd Party Sellers listed as NEW on Amazon - New Nintendo 3DS LL JPN Pearl White are for sale for $195
3rd Party Sellers listed as NEW on Amazon - New Nintendo 3DS XL USA Black are for sale for $225-$230 (why so expensive?)
FACTORY REFURBISHED BY NINTENDO on eBay - New Nintendo 3DS XL USA Black for $150 (any experience with these?)

And just to understand:
If I were to go for the JPN system again, and convert it to USA I understand no eshop or game updates.
But what about updating system software or is that done through the CFW?

Check my signature link for brand new USA region black n3DSXL. You can also buy refurbs for decent prices directly at Nintendo online store.

Region changing a new series 3DS/2DS does not allow you to update games for the adopted region.

If you region change a (used) native JPN n3DSLL with USA firmware, it will not be able to update USA region games due to being originally registered or locked-in as a JPN model.
It also will not update JPN games because of the lack of JPN Nintendo eShop installed on the system after the region changing, unless you region change back to JPN firmware.

***

Let's say you buy a brand new, never before used native USA n3DSXL. You hack it with ntrboot ds flashcart, region change the firmware to JPN, and lastly use JPN Nintendo eShop. The first region Nintendo eShop that system ever uses becomes its (mostly-)permanent registered region.

***

There's supposedly a way to region change n3DS / n3DSXL / n2DSXL including access to the adopted region's Nintendo eShop.
