Ten more games for the SEGA Genesis Mini's lineup revealed

ZyQfwYy.png

The Sega Genesis Mini has been in the works for a while now, with details about the throwback console being fairly limited until last month, where we were told that it would offer 40 different classic games and would finally launch on September 19th. Today, we've received a new tidbit of information that reveals ten more titles for the Genesis Mini's lineup. Those confirmed titles are:

  • Earthworm Jim
  • Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse
  • World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck
  • Contra: Hard Corps
  • Thunder Force 3
  • Super Fantasy Zone
  • Streets of Rage 2
  • Landstalker
  • Shinobi 3
  • Sonic 2

That means we've seen exactly half of what the upcoming small console will have to offer, with the remaining 20 games to be shown in the coming months. There are plenty of classics to choose from, and if you've forgotten what those previous ten were, they're listed below:

  • Sonic 1
  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • Gunstar Heroes
  • Comix Zone
  • Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
  • Shining Force
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines
  • Space Harrier 2
  • ToeJam and Earl
  • Altered Beast

What do you think? Are you going to buy one when it launches later this fall? Or do you prefer to play your classic games on something like the Analogue Sg or the original hardware?

You can have nostalgia, but there is no harm in adding some rarities. Snes added star fox 2 to the nes classic, that sure made a impression. No harm in adding games that's hasn't seen a re-release in ages. Part of buying compilations can be knowing games you are going to like and playing new ones you may not have heard of before. That's how I discovered beyond oasis was fun. :)

still 20 games to be added........

rare and undiscovered?

might need to check that game out.
You also should check out Monster world IV, and Pulse man. :)
Monster world IV was exclusive to japan since 1994 but was translated by M2 and released in 2012 for the PS3, Xbox 360 & Wii Virtual console (that is dead now) Pulse Man was made by Game Freak (Yes the same people who make pokemon) :ninja:

How do you know it'll be emulated? While the mini consoles are now the new hit thing in gaming you never know what the specs will be.
lol your not for real are you? there is no way in hell they arent emulating their games, no company releases original hardware from 90s when they can put a pie wich cost them afew bucks with some roms, there hasnt been a single classic mini whatever consoles that played without emulating...

and sega themselves said M2 was handling the emulation, they code the virtual console on wii and such.

Did someone said Earthworm Jim? Can't decide if the PC, Sega Genesis or Snes version is the best...
Oooh, I like this question! For sure the MD/Genesis version is better than the SNES one... aside from the extra colours and added special effects on SNES (most notably the lens flare on level 1) pretty much everything else is inferior.

But PC..... there's an old Windows version, or are you talking about the one on GOG, or the HD one also on PS3 and 360? The version on GOG is almost like the SNES version in PC terms: missing at least one level if I remember correctly, and generally feeling incomplete in comparison.
Both non-HD PC versions are based more on the Mega CD version anyway, which has an extra level over the MD/Genesis version, and cd audio bgm (which will depend on your personal taste)

I personally think theMD/Genesis version is the best version: it just feels right on it.

Really the only way I can imagine buying one is (1) if It include several relatively rare games like Monster World IV, (2) has an SD slot to add games (because yes, we all do own Sega Mega Drive & Genesis Classics on Steam), and (3) can run demos like TItan Overdrive correctly. So, yea, probably never going to happen.

I wish it came with a tiny Mega CD addon for the bottom side. I think that would look amazing.
It would be like the amiibo add-on, with a tiny storage volume to load stuff like Sonic CD, the scd version of mortal kombat and (hopefully) something clever like Snatcher to kill the steam out of those pricks trying to get others to fund their retirement by selling their beat up disc copies of the game on eBay.

I was 50/50 joking. xD. I mean ofc they will go the cheaper route.

Don't care about those list. Useless and worthless. I will pass until it sell for 20 dollars then I will hack it just for Mega Man The Wily wars therefore multiply emulators already have them. :P

also mentioned specs, lol a toaster can play genesis games, the crappiest pie in the market can do genesis games full-speed, i still hope someday sega stars doing compilations of some of its older consoles/addons

segacd/sega32x/sega Saturn/ dreamcast

the reason they dont is becuase those require abit more horsepower specialy saturn.

still see no reason why they never include segacd games they run almost the same they just take abit more storage tough.

Old PC version for MS-DOS has better graphics and music but slow load times.

But overall I do prefer the Sega Genesis version.
