I’m considering buying a switch to mod, however I’d like to play copies of my PS1 games. I’m having trouble finding any information on expectation on speed, accuracy and compatibility. Can anyone share there experiences?

I've seen some videos on YouTube and so far so good. I'm guessing it's about trial and error. Try looking for videos where they're playing the games you have on mind playing as well and see how they do.

PCSX ReARMed core is optimized pretty well. Overclocking is available now too easily to help with more demanding games.

Do a search in this thread to fix or find the most common PS1 issues

I have personally played Tales of Destiny 2 and Star Ocean, they both ran fine enough for me

TBH, get yourself a moddable PS3 slim instead for PS1 games.

Why?

A) Perfect emulation of every game with optional smoothing filters and screen scaling
B) Internal or external HDD storage instead of microSD (Slap in a 1 or 2 TB drive and never worry about storage)
C) Wireless controller support via Dualshock 3 (Play the games with a proper Sony controller - YES I know you can get Dualshock stuff working on a switch, but PS3 is native painless support for 4 controllers)

You could also make an argument for PS TV or other options, but I find a modded PS3 the best for my needs

Heck even if it's not modded, All ps3's can play ps1 games. a lot of people don't know that. had to prove it to a local retro game store a few years back.

I just recently got FF8 running through retroarch and the pcsxrearmed core. I don't do any overclocking and the game seems to run full-speed. It might suffer some slowdowns here and there but I haven't noticed. After setting up fast forward in retroarch, menus and simple scenes get a slight speed boost but the emulator doesn't seem to be able to go much faster than full speed when in most 3D gameplay. All my experience is with handheld mode, don't have the volume up so IDK about sound emulation but it's been playable so far for me.

The thing is that with the switch you don't only get a pretty good ps1 and psp emulation (which will only get better) you also get a ton of other emulators and all in the palm of your hand...or TV for multiplayer games.

You just can't beat that

RetroArch with Overclock and PCSXReArmed core works well with every game I've thrown at it:

1. All crash games
2. All Tony Hawk Proskaters
3. Resident Evil
4. Metal Gear Solid
5. All Spyro's

and more.

Parasite Eve 2 doesn't work for me. Black screen with default settings, with the dedicated hack option I could see a line of text or two but black screen after that. My guess is the unique FMV isn't supported. PE2 has a feature where the background is moving but only when Aya is moving, i.e. controllable FMV.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

It's a pity PCSX rearmed for switch is software rendering only and doesn't support higher resolutions.

it definitely can run in double speed, though I'm not sure if i did overclock to 1500mhz.

anyways, the emulator works fine for a whole bunch of games, but I'm sure there's a few oddballs here and there.
like i haven't gotten shipwrecked to run for example.

but i played through all of spyro 2, started both ff8 and 9, played through mmx4 and megaman 8.
speed isn't the issue anymore at this point.

For shipwrecked, what bios are you using? some region games might require a specific bios. (Bios mode set to HLE has lower compatibility than Bios mode set to any PSX bios, even out-of-region bios.)
