Hey all, first post here, sorry if I do anything wrong, can fix fast if so.

So I bought a DSi cheap off of ebay because I noticed it had some logo on it that I've never seen before. Here's a pic

IMG_20190402_130906.jpg

7DaZfWR. jpg (imgur for backup, add an i. imgur website url before it, since I can't post links)

I found it roughly translates to "National Vendor MD Championship". Here's it typed in case you want to search it, 全国ベンダーMD選 手 権 (選 might be the wrong kanji? can't find anything else)

It isn't on the DSi variant website, googling the text turns up no DSi results, and I can't find a picture of it anywhere. Does anybody have any idea what exactly this is and where it came from, or where it was given/sold? My best guess is it was a prize for some championship, but I have no real clue.

Any thoughts or help is appreciated, and I can provide any extra pictures or info needed. Thanks! :)

Edit: Some extra interesting information, the system firmware is on 1.0j, never been updated. Just thought that was kind of cool. I also don't have a DSi charger and battery is on 2 bars, so I'm gonna have to conserve it well.
Edit2: Haha turns out a 3ds charger works, who knew!

"Mercalli-Coca-Cola not for sale Pins Pin-Buck [Novelty goods]"
"Mercalli" typo of "Mercari" which is the marketplace it was listed on

MD seems to be reference to "Maryland MD 75th Anniversary" or "MD-ATLANTIC COCA-COLA BOTTLING CO., INC."

Theres also a similar thing going on here with PSP:

It seems the PSP one was awarded to a Contest Winner in 2006, it could be a similar case here with the NDS, perhaps the winner sold it off and eventually find way to you.
Yeah. Also the winner's (or another previous owner's) face is on the DSi camera, along with a picture of random people on a train in japan. Doubt that's of any use though

Thanks for that link, I think it's very strongly related, especially because of the time of the article's posting. Also I appreciate the offer, but I'm gonna hold off on doing anything with it until I can find more information on it, I'm looking particularly for at least confirmation on whether more of these exact variants exist or if this is the only one, and in what type of environment this was given away/won in. I still think could have to do with a competition or something.

I've heard of these coke promotions, Nintendo did this before, all the way back to the Game Boy Color. Really rare, keep it.

Why? I'm curious.
It would be really cool to have this version backed up. There is no way to get it via NUS Dowloader. On top of that, I don’t want to wait for a dev-version to be leaked. The Wii community is now having trouble getting a retail v1.0 because we only found dev-versions.

Also, I want to try it out via HiyaCFW, it might be possible.

If I can somehow dump this firmware (preferably without softmodding?) I'd be happy to help

Also it's a bit surprising that this version isn't backed up, you'd think it'd be pretty common, with people who never connected their dsi to the internet or something

Unfortunatly, no. There is 0% chance this console has Flipnote Studio and if you want to download it, download v1.4.5J first, which kills v1.0. The DSi Shop was discontinued to begin with. You must go further and hardmod the DSi so you can dump the NAND.
Idk if v1.0 has Nintendo Zone. If they do have that, ask @shutterbug2000 to test Failzone (its a hidden menu app). You can launch that way TWtool and dump the NAND without permanent hardmods or softmods.

You won't need to softmod it, but you'll need a DS flashcart to run homebrew with. You can pick one up online at 3ds-flashcard here. You'll need at least a 2GB microSD card to use it as well. Once you have a flashcart and a microSD, format the microSD as FAT32 with default allocation, get the firmware for your flashcart (the firmware for the one I linked is here) and extract it to the root of your microSD, put this file in the GAME folder if using the one I linked, or the root if using a regular R4 or R4i with wood. After that, insert the microSD into your flashcart, insert the flashcart into the DSi, run the cartridge from the DSi menu, and run fwTool.nds from the ROM/game menu.

1.0J does not have NZone. The NZone service was launched on November 27, 2008 whereas the DSi itself was released on November 1, 2008. The NZone app was included starting with DSi firmware v1.2, and was unavailable in 1.0.

Edit: I found another post here that relates to dumping NAND on 1.0J DSi:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/dsi-1-0j.475223/#post-7411357
The thread also outlines the steps necessary in order to decrypt NAND on that version, which ends up saying that a hardmod is 100% required.

Edit 2: Just figured out that the ConsoleID can now be bruteforced! https://github.com/Jimmy-Z/bfCL/releases
