Well, I am not entirely surprised. They probably don't want people to stick with Windows 7, lol. It will be losing support in under a year. If they gave Windows 7 the will DX12 suite, people will be less inclined to upgrade to Windows 10.

I suppose that's fair. I mean, Win 10 has been super stable for me anyway.

Here I am, just did a Fresh Install of Windows XP! It's been 23 minutes and 38 seconds and I'm still waiting waiting for someone to "have complete remote control of my PC".

And just for the record, only n00bs like you install Service Packs, us Pros Integrate them directly into the installer! But you wouldn't know anything about that would you n00b?

Lastly, where it the fǔck did I say that people SHOULD be using Windows XP? I made ONE COMMENT about how "there are still many people using it!" and that somehow translates into me saying that everyone should go install it? SMFH
Your screenshot also demonstrates another problem with using depreciated operating systems. Firefox, for example, stopped supporting Windows XP after 52.9.0esr. As much as websites are relying on new HTML5 features, you're bound to run into more and more compatibility issues as time goes on. And that's to say nothing of the aforementioned security issues, which are even more important. You're also double-dipping, since there are security issues with both the browser and the OS.
What benefits does Windows 10 Pro have for someone who doesn't do anything more than gaming? Hmm, i'm kinda unsettled by the fact I don't have to reinstall anything, what's the catch?
For most people, there's no real difference between Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro. The increased control over the update settings is the only thing that comes to mind, since you mentioned it. There's no real catch to updating to Windows 10 Pro. You just do the following:
  1. Use the generic Windows 10 Pro key to update to Windows 10 Pro while disconnected from the internet (takes about 10 minutes or so).
  2. Reboot the computer.
  3. Activate your Windows 10 Pro using a specific tool I won't name right now, which gives you a permanent and legitimate license from Microsoft as if you had updated from Windows 7 during the free upgrade offer. This step takes a minute.
"early adopters"? LMFAO WTF? It was a GENERAL RELEASE!!!!!!!!!!

The losing of one's data during the 1809 debacle only happened to users who manually installed the update.

Your response demonstrates another problem which is that clearly YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO READ!!! Go back and read the reason on WHY I even bothered posting the screenshot in the first place.

And here we are once again with you CLEARLY not knowing WTF you're talking about.

Yup, that's how they do it, FORCED UPDATES! It's funny how they can't just make Windows 10 run smoothly like Windows 7, then maybe the PROS would actually want to WILLINGLY SWITCH TO IT!

I wasn't addressing why you posted the screenshot, as that's a conversation between you and someone else. I was addressing another problem, as I said. Don't be hypocritical with illiteracy comments.

Because there was a problem for some who manually updated, they pulled the update until it could be fixed. Users who didn't install the update manually never had a problem, because the update was pulled and re-released before regular users were ever scheduled to receive it.

Really wished I could disable feature updates, as most of them are absolutely useless for my needs. But I'm on Home, so no dice.

You're not even on the Pro edition? bwahahahahahahahahaahahahahaha

@FanboyKilla, don't waste too much energy arguing with these noobs. They have clearly demonstrated what level they're on. You're literally arguing with people who don't know any better. Peace out bro.

How the hell is that a forced update? They aren't forcing you to upgrade to Windows 10. You can choose to update to Windows 10 or to stay on a soon to be insecure OS. You can do whatever you want with your PC.
I suggest you watch this video:

Lacius is right, while the users did install 1809 through Windows Update, they had to search for it manually. Otherwise you didn't get the update pushed to you.

Steal Acquire Enterprise, since in W10 even Pro is not fully featured (especially, and pretty much only, with regard of being able to turn off perceived annoyances) - or EnterpriseS (LTSB) where "feature updates" (aka completely new releases) aren't even an option :P

I can say the same.I think the most problems happend through software/apps/old drivers.
Maybe Windows 10 is a bit too aggressive to prevent old tools/drivers from installing. The other way it "granted" an stable OS.

I understand Windows XP and Windows 7 users to "hate" windows 10.Its a big step between this Versions.Maybe Microsoft did a mistake to sweep Windows 8/8.1 under the table for the "normal" user.

But we also have a big step between Windows Millenium/2000 and XP too.Its the same,at the beginning they all scolded upon XP and later its getting maybe the best Windows.

INDIRECTLY FORCED!!!!!!!!!!!!! As in they back you into a corner and leave you NO CHOICE but to DOWNGRADE to WinBlows 10!

Ohhhh ok, so just as long as you don't "Check for Updates" then you're safe, got it. I'll be sure to let all my clients know that when they ask me if it's "SAFE" to deploy WinBlows 10 on their mission critical machines.

Client: So is it safe to deploy Windows 10 on our machines yet?
FanboyKilla: Yeah you'll be fine, just make sure none of your employees click on the "Check for Updates" in the Settings because the n00bs on GBAtemp who are in charge on maintaining their personal computer said so.

So indirectly that in practice you don't - even assuming you can't get 8.1 or older drivers for hardware being invented right now, a ten year old PC is still well usable for general productivity - in fact I'm using one right now (bought last year too!)

wait, i dont get it, doesn't windows 10 automatically updates itself and even there are countless people in the internet complaining about updating at the wrong moments..

Until recently if your system root was Veracrypt encrypted the update would fail because the proper driver filter for the encryption wouldn't be present during the update. The fix was to manually download the update and patch the updater. They eventually fixed that, but as a consequence I still haven't gotten around to updating to 1809.

Your personal data is safe on Windows 10, not on an exploitable system.

That feels like someone saying swiss cheese would make a great life raft. Or that we can trust the NSA with all its warrantless wiretapping because its interests are international and no one could possibly leak data from the NSA. So, yea, no, I don't particular feel Windows in general is a safe place for personal data.

I'm not defending Microsoft as incapable of doing no wrong (Hi, Windows 8), but Windows 10 is a solid operating system, and it's foolish to use an operating system with known security exploits and no security support.

Windows 10 has been mostly solid for me, much like 7 and XP were. Plenty of people have had plenty of issues though during the update process (which is apparently somewhere between an install and an upgrade), so I can definitely see people holding off for quite a while. I'd also tend to argue it's not foolish per se to use an operating system with known security exploits and no security support--most Android phones qualify--so long as the entry vectors can be well protected and you're cautious. For example, plenty of people have XP or 98 machines that either don't connect to the internet or do through browsers that are up to date (MyPal for Windows XP, possibly), only used signed software, etc.

At a deeper level, most every operating system with a public tracker has known public security exploits. Those that don't still tend to end up being exploitable--pwn2own virtually never fails. There's a reason "security is a process" is a thing. If there were such a thing as a secure OS, it wouldn't be Windows just by the nature of being closed source with closed drivers (see the recent incident with Huwaei). Linux definitely, in its current state, wouldn't qualify. The closest match would be perhaps OpenBSD or some microkernel OS.

Most people don't see any difference between Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Home.

I do, for a start if you're using bitlocker to encrypt your machine then I would recommend Pro.

Also if you need to use Hyper-V then you need Pro (Visual Studio uses it for android development)

Most people don't use the Enterprise features, and some people don't want to deal with things like KMS.

Yeah the extras in Windows 10 Enterprise are too niche even for me & KMS for your OS makes me a little worried

Windows 8/8.1 were the mistakes.

I didn't mind 8.x, I didn't miss 7 at all. Vista wasn't great, but it was 64 bit.

I tend to upgrade OS relatively early, I ran 7 betas and 10 insiders for a while. I grabbed the 1809 ISO and manually installed it, rather than waiting for windows update.

Anyone still running Windows XP has seriously terrible hardware, or issues.

Which is all it is.. But the option is there if you want to let it ruin an otherwise great OS.

I mean, I guess the intent behind telemetry and data collection, etc wasn't done with malice but is still quite annoying to be a part. Thank goodness you can stop it with registry editing.

Correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't editing the registry put myself or the OS at risk of uh, well, becoming unstable? I don't want the OS to magically run badly after I reset it lol.
AFAIK none of these registry settings/services have any bearing on how the rest of the OS runs, and I haven't had a single issue since changing them long ago.

Correct, they don't. Just change what you're instructed to and you're fine.
