Announced as a surprise drop for New Year's was Persona 5R, and with its reveal came absolutely no information about the upcoming title other than the fact that it existed. That'll change soon, however, as Atlus is planning on finally giving fans more details about what exactly Persona 5R is. Tomorrow, on March 23rd, the finale for Persona 5: The Animation will air, and after it concludes, we'll get to see a peek at some new information regarding the game, according to the official Japanese Twitter account for Persona 5. Stay tuned, as this thread will be updated once the broadcast has completed.

UPDATE:

The teaser reveal has gone live, with the title of the upcoming game officially revealed as Persona 5: The Royal. A female character is shown standing in the crowd. A narration asks, "What are your thoughts on the Phantom Thieves?", with the unknown character responding, "I think helping people is a wonderful thing, but if I had to say, I don't like them. I don't think the Phantom Thieves' methods will make the world a better place or help anyone. In the end, I feel like you can only solve that yourself."

That was all that Atlus revealed, though more information is promised for the upcoming Persona Super Live Concert, which will take place on April 24.

No, maybe ask one of the staff, they probably have a good source for interviews. There are two developer interviews where Hashino is like, "We seriously thought the game would not come out, but we finally got it to a point where it was either release it as is or not at all." My understanding is that it was both because of budget and the way they spread the team too thin. It also didn't help that they decided to release a PS4 version when they were nearly done worth the PS3 version, forcing them to redo all of the portrait animations for the in-game cutscenes.

Then there's another interview where they're like, "oh we had all these concepts we threw out because the game was long enough" - but that was AFTER the game was released, and they were able to cover up the fact the ending was unfinished with the customer-feedback that people felt the game dragged. But seriously, I don't know anyone that played the game and was like, "oh it fits so perfect that they skip the last 3 months..."

Oh, I was implying that if, Persona R were released for the Vita without Western localization (like Catherine Full Body was), I'd still be pretty happy knowing that there might be a fan translation sometime in the future to play it in English (as I hope there will be for Catherine Full Body). I’m still positive they will release at least a Golden portable version down the line one way or another. P5 sold only about 600k physically in Japan. Market is stagnating, people may not be so interested in P5R. They need to reach other platforms, or maybe PC lol.

Not gonna lie, and I know it's not what the Switch owners want to hear, but I'd be massively surprised to ever see any of the core titles of the Persona series released on anything other than a Sony platform.

If you're going to quote the Smash roster as a reason for games coming to Switch I can give you a long list of titles you'll be dissapointed to likely never see on that console.

This confirms it folks, we are getting SMT5 on PS4, while Persona 5 will be going to the Switch! /s

Edit: Frankly, I don't really care if it releases on the Switch or not, but you all need to really lower your expectations. P5 for the Switch has not been announced nor teased and the rumors have just been speculation because Joker is coming to Smash. Let's all just calm down and believe it won't be coming to the Switch until it is announced.
