Preinstalled games are different. They contain a universal ticket. If you make a CIA from them, it will work, without CFW, on any console (FW 11.3 or less).
So which options from Godmode9 should I pick? Build standard CIA or Build Legit CIA?

Also if there is a NNID linked to the console, is it still possible to make universal CIA?

In case you guys haven't noticed - today is the third anniversary of the first public GodMode9 release. There's a new release out to celebrate the anniversary. Get GodMode9 v1.8.0 Third Anniversary Edition from the usual place!
Thank you for all of your work put into it! :grog:

It's been fun watching gm9 grow into what I genuinely believe to be the most useful and versatile tool for the 3DS.

have any bugs been found?

should I get 1.8.0 or wait for 1.8.1
Not to ruin the limelight. Before anyone gives @TyDye a hard time, (s)he's referring to where previous major GodMode9 releases are shortly followed by a v*.*.1 quick fixes. It's somewhat of a running gag at this point where waiting a day or two may not be a bad idea.

Go with 1.8.0, it's been worked on and tested for several months now. I've been testing and working the nightly builds up until this point and really haven't found any issues that haven't already been fixed by 1.8.0's release

Replace your current "Godmode9.firm" with the new one
Only that file, huh?

I tried replacing it as well as the "gm9" folder from the root of the SD Card, it would not boot. I shall try replacing the ".firm" file only this time.

Update:

I tried it again just now. But GodMode9 will not boot on me using the ".firm" file from version 1.8.0. But it boots just fine when using version 1.7.1.

That's technically optional, but I guess you should copy and replace the current "gm9" folder and files as well.

okay I think I did something dumb, when I try booting into the 3ds I get met with this message:

Warning:
Not running from a boot9strap compatible entry point. Not everything may work as expected.

provide the recommended aeskeydb.bin file to make this warning go away

I don't know what I did, I think I installed the new godmode9 boot.firm to firm0

When looking in the gm9 folder on my sd card I have the following things in my folders.

Did I fuck up? How can I fix this

Are you still using A9LH?

If so, why not make the upgrade to B9S? https://3ds.hacks.guide/a9lh-to-b9s.html
