Hi There and a Happy New Year!

I've been on a quick learning curve since Christmas to install CFW on an original 3DS XL.
Got CFW installed via SteelHacker, SubWars, Frogtool etc, Then onto FBI & GM9 etc.
Got 3DS games on home menu via CIA files, original GB, GBC & GBA roms too, all seem to run better as CIA injected files rather than with GBA Runner.

I'm quite chuffed to have done this, not bad for an old man!
What a great trip down memory lane it's been with these games, but I'd never have been able to get this far without the skills of the coders who setup all the necessary software so thanks a million!

For NDS & DSI titles I'm using Twilight Menu++ which works really well.

But I'm totally stuck on how to run cheats on the NDS roms...?!
Can anyone help, is it even possible without an action replay or R4 card?

I've edited a cheats.xml file with R4CCE and placed the file on various locations on the SD card but I don't know where to go from there.
I'm hoping to activate cheats for Pokemon Heart Gold (Europe) which runs through Twilight Menu++ v2.1.1
If there's an existing post which I've missed please could you point me in the right direction?

So, many thanks in advance.

Gordon.

So far, the closest thing I've found Nitrohax.

Coded by a guy called Michael 'Chism' Chisholm, it installs as a CIA file and reads cheats from an XML file on the root of the SD card.

It needs a DS/DSI card to be installed, and if that game is matched to the cheat in the XML file then cheats will work on that game cart.

Although it doesn't work yet (as far as I know) with Twilight++ NDS/DSi games on the SD card, I think it's an amazing addition to the 3DS home menu because it's a purely software version of an Action Replay card. :-)

"Blessed are the geeks". Bible said.

Just found a response to this very question from Robz8 on 1st Oct 2018-

"nds-bootstrap itself supports cheats, but there is no cheat menu for TWiLight Menu++ yet, and that won't be implemented anytime soon."

So there's the answer in a nutshell.

Thanks Robz8.

Cheat support is finally added! (special thanks to @Epicpkmn11!)
Cheats will be read from usrcheat.dat at sd:/_nds/TWiLightMenu/cheats.
While all of the themes will read the enabled cheats, currently only the Acekard theme has a cheat menu where you can enable/disable cheats.

Hope nobody minds if I bump this.
I'm having issues with cheats actually applying in Pokemon Plat. Any ideas?

Well, it seems that Chrono Trigger has some functioning cheats. I will keep trying titles unless that's enough for you.
Update: I updated the cheat repository with the official twilight updater and Platinum is no longer launching at all, causes a crash to 3DS dashboard. Opening the cheat menu on Platinum also causes a crash to 3DS dashboard. Other games seem to launch just fine.

Okay. Seems like the rom itself is the problem, did you try using other source for the rom? Maybe it was patched before? Did you also update nds-bootstrap? Have you tried reinstalling twilight from zero? Many variables still need to be considered when even opening the cheat menu can crash the 3ds. If not then maybe it's a worthy bug to contact the dev itself @Robz8.

Edit: Sometimes there's certain cheats that can gamebreak and crash the game when applying it simultaneously, make sure to try it one by one first. Then compare.

I used an old copy of the ROM, the ROM has never had an issue before. I AP Patched what was needed and followed every step as well. My bootstrap is less than a month old. I can run luma and update the bootstrap, though, I think.

I will reinstall twilight from the ground up when I have the time to.

@MagnesG I have reinstalled the menu and Pokemon Platinum seems to be working. Cheats on it, however, still do not function whatsoever. What an odd problem. I wonder if Robz8 would help?

@Robz8 can't help much if its related to cheat-only issues. Can you tell me what cheats you applied on? I will test it myself.

Edit: Tested it, yeah severals I've tried seems not working. Money cheat, text and movement speed works though.
