Ok, i bought a New 3DS XL yesterday and followed this youtube tutorial to an absolute t and had no problem getting the Homebrew Launcher on there...

Eventually after awhile of googling and reading forums and watching more tutorials i see now you have to install FBI first before you can play downloaded 3ds games (as in p***ted ones... i didn't say the word admins so please don't remove this now)... correct?

Well i've just now also followed this tutorial right down to the tiniest detail, however everytime i try to launch FBI from the Homebrew Launcher it just gets stuck on red screen...

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. All i wanna do is play downloaded 3DS games on it and i admit i know sweet f**k all about any of this, so do i even need this stuff or can i simply put a 3DS rom on the sd card and just play it?

Video guides are quickly outdated

This guide will get you to a state where you can launch fbi and install cia (installable 3ds) titles

Well, I'm not gonna watch those videos completely. Video guides are often outdated and/or bad and/or fail explaining some steps.

Did you install custom firmware or only userland homebrew (this is not enough). You need full cfw to use FBI (as the title of the second video already states).

Always refer to https://3ds.hacks.guide/ not random video guides. A wild guess, since the first video stopped right after booting the Homebrew Launcher from "Steel Diver: Sub Wars" you can probably continue here:

I looked at that link and (i admit i could be wrong here as i said i know f*ck all about this kinda stuff) but it appeared to me like i'm going to have to un-do some stuff i've already done and/or start again. It took me ages carefully following that video in the first link there step-by-step and (sorry if i sound like a brat now) but i don't really wanna start over. That vid was released only a few months ago and is for the latest firmware... so, any chance you could please just check it out and tell me any extra things i need to do (by the amount i did already i'm sure it's probably only a very small amount left to do... like add a couple of files to the sd card or something) Cheers.

What parts would you have to redo? Just start from wherever the video left off.

Also, it doesn't take very long to follow the guide.

I had just installed the Homebrew Launcher and now open it by pressing on Sub Wars and then just launch the game without updating. When i do that i see Steelhax Installer (nothing else and have no clue what that even is) What i meant was i looked at that link and followed it and how it said to install the HB Launcher in that vid did have parts that are different to what it says in your link there (like it didn't say anything about Seedminer... unless it has other names, i don't know... and some of the stuff here i don't think i saw in that vid... there again i might have for all i know...

https://3ds.hacks.guide/installing-boot9strap-(frogtool)

Could you please maybe just watch the last couple of minutes of that vid and given what i've said so far help me out cause surely there can't be that much left to do?

You need to do the seedminer part

That is critical

Seems like you have access to homebrew launcher but no kernel access - meaning it's pretty much only useful for minor homebrew

If you want to actually softmod your 3ds follow the guide

Yes it will take 30 minutes, but it's the only way to do it right

If you just followed the guide earlier when we suggested it, you'd be done already

Ok... i did a full factory reset on my 3ds (each time) set everything up again so i could start from new following, once again, everything in that link you provided down to an absolute t. However 5 f*cking times now i've done this and everytime i get to the part where i launch Sub Wars to launch the homebrew launcher (and yes i know which Sub Wars to choose cause there's a few of em) everytime it comes up with "Corrupted save data has been deleted" ffs.

Unfortunately i'm in da land down under so i have a PAL 3ds and on this page here it says that because of that i have to use the more complicated Seedminer + Steelhax + Frogtool method.

https://3ds.hacks.guide/seedminer

Just out of curiosity there's 2 options there at the end...

Seedminer + Fredtool... and... Seedminer + Steelhax + Frogtool.

Because i'm PAL, after completing everything else, i just went straight to the Seedminer + Steelhax + Frogtool method and did everything it said there and then tried to load Sub Wars. Is the mistake i'm making that i'm supposed to do both methods or should just the Seedminer + Steelhax + Frogtool alone be correct to get it running?

That's really not necessary.

Do you keep using the same old moveable.sed? Because when you do a factory reset, your moveable.sed changes and has to be "mined" again.

Both methods achieve exactly the same result. It's just like the guide says: since you have a EUR 3DS, Steelminer+Fredtool will require you to make a purchase from the eShop, but Seedminer + Steelhax + Frogtool requires only the free Steel Diver download.

Both methods start off requiring you to calculate your moveable.sed.

Appreciate the response but i just eventually said "f*ck this" and took the 3ds back to the store and got a refund. Only reason i wanted it was to play Luigi's Mansion 2 because i've run out of other interesting games to play and have been wanting to play that for years... however, like the true retards Nintendo have been for year after year now, they never released it to a console (Uhh hello Nintendo... the Wii U would have been perfect! No wonder it was a massive failure with literally f*ck all games to play on it... oh and btw, how in the good lord's name would anyone think that having the sd card permanently inside and only being able to access it via wifi-link was a smart idea???)

Anyway i just saw yesterday that it is finally now working properly on Citra Nightly :D :D I downloaded the latest Citra Nightly and a LM2 PAL rom and it is working (hallelujah!!) Little bit buggy but that's only cause i haven't changed any settings yet... cause i have no clue what to set them to :( Could you possibly help me out with that?

You could just, y'know, buy it. Especially since you've been wanting to play it for years.

Stories abound of people somehow managing to wreck their SD card (or even the SD card slot) by removing and inserting it, thereby irretrievably losing all their save data. I'm definitely going to do whatever I can to avoid touching it. (It is unfortunate that they're using a version of the SMB protocol with dangerous vulnerabilities.)

cause i have no clue what to set them to :( Could you possibly help me out with that?
A topic for another thread, I think.

Fair enough.
