I've already had my money worth. The haters can't understand that the $30 i spent 8 months ago works out at $0.12 a day. while they were struggling with layered FS , games not working and having to install NSP files my kids were playing ALL the games that had come out and still do :). oh and not to mention Emunand and Usb loading :)
This exactly. I don't even use sxos anymore, But I still use the dongle still. I enjoyed using xci's and such way before free CFW had it and told myself that I would never move to free CFW because at the time SXOS seemed like the best solution for me. I looked for ease of use from the beginning not price.

Now that Atmosphere is so far along and has everything I ever used from SXOS I just dont have use for it anymore. (Unless they add something AMAZING, and it has to be amazing for me to switch back) I still feel like I got my moneys worth out of this and at this point just want a trinket installed. That way the dongle will just be something else I dont have to use.

I just find it quite funny that a couple of months ago you had die hard SXOS users who defended them non stop and became verbally agressive when you said something bad about SX but now they all seem to be defending Atmosphere. The irony in that all is quite hilarious
Eventually people realize what they are doing and what they are defending. Most don't want to admit that at all though. I could have been one of those SXOS shills for all I know lmao

It's a given fact that about 90% of the homebrew scene unfortunately gives less than two fucks as long as they have CFW with the one or two features they specifically want, ignoring any serious issues trusting a certain developer or team might pose based on said developer/teams ethics and general behavior.

Given how TXs development strategy is a mixture of "lets take stuff from everyone else" and "we're gonna be the fastest", that naturally means they get a large initial following as all the other CFW are stuck competing against themselves, which is not nearly as funny as it sounds (given their theft of everything from point 1).

There's two obviously inherent flaws from this strategy though:
  • Once a CFW implements a feature to support a new firmware that obviously refers to their own CFW and can't easily be coated over (in this case septs boot splash), they are basically stopped dead in their tracks until they have a way around it.
  • Bugs bugs bugs. Being fast means often having less bug testing, therefore meaning stuff tends to be unstable. While Atmosphere takes a release pattern that is "get all the kinks worked out, then release", TXs is "we have a feature, we release it". The result? Atmosphere has more stable feature releases (irony: TX members like to say AMS is a crashy mess) and TX is riddled with initial bugs that they then have to patch out in updates.
Currently, we're seeing both in action, with 7.x support being done by sept and TXs cheat engine having been reimplemented into Atmosphere with more and less buggy (specifically, TXs cheat engine is laggy on some games, which Atmosphere explicitly has fixed) functionality compared to their original implementation.

I'd personally express doubt that most scene members are getting "enlightened" from this drought of TX updates, given how the same dance has happened with the Gateway, which was only denounced after they shamelessly (and poorly) stole arm9loaderhax and any features they could offer were long superseded by better alternatives.

Just my 0.02 on this matter.

I dont understand why all the hate to Tx , my soncole is ban i dont like playing online , im really happy with sxos because its easy !!!
Just got the game choose is play it on xci or install it , and thats it.
I dont have to choose for keys , or install a diffrent background picture to customize my switch .
And i have friends that know less about the scene than me , so i just told them here is the link , put the downloaded xci nsp and plug it into the switch usb ,,, its easiest than use than atmosphere or any other programs .

Oh was that taken as hate? Or are you just saying that you don't understand all of the hate from other?

It was very easy to use and setup from the beginning. It was the only thing that could really play backups at that time and when free alternatives came out I swore up and down that I would stick with the ease of use. Then after a while I would hear "oh this and this dont work with sx os (things that I wanted) and I eventually made the switch.

I sure did get my moneys worth out of this product though.
I couldn't say that it's easier now though. Its about the same with the tools and homebrew that is out now for free cfw.

Obviously not, they're driven by profits. The best thing to do if they were about to fold, which I am not convinced they are (obviously they will suck up the boot screen even if it equals reduced profits, as it is better some profit than no profit), would be to lie about it and keep sales up for as long as possible before bailing.
TX today is not the same as TX from X-Box days, only the name is the same. There are threads here discussing this.

Obvious to you maybe but certainly not to everyone, according to the tens of pages of this thread.

I wish GBA would do a little house cleaning. There are a lot of people who couldnt write "hello world" in a batch file who have a lot of opinions about people who were hacking consoles before they were born. Its not "silencing dissent" -- we have a duty to be technically accurate, you can take you opinions about hacking and TX and jump up your own asses. So blocking or banning someone for their stupid is needed.

So many of you know nothing of what goes on behind the scenes. bunch of little kids talking shit. we used to ban people who offered nothing in forums but doubt.

You have a handful of shit stirrers here, you need to reign em in. Who wants to contribute their time an money to help a bunch of ungrateful little bastards?

This scene needs to grow the fuck up.

Let's not forget the bricking code Gateway had. It has been proven they had it and yet some people defended them calling it a bug but there is no way something as complex as password locking the NAND with a specifically crafted and console unique password can be a bug. It was absolutely intentional and TX (aka Gateway) had it aswell until they disabled it (still in there but unreachable by any code path).

So there is undeniable proof of this?

On whose end? Gateway there's tons of proof, just look on GBATemp.

TXs end, they admitted it since they disabled it in 1.1 although to cite my own analogy:

In my eyes that is trying to sugarcoat an awful practice, and the rough equivalent of saying “we broke into your house, shot your dog with a gun, but look, we only did that to see if your security was up to notch as you are a security expert in training, so you know, you can forgive us right?”.

(They called it a "challenge to aspiring hackers".)

It's still in their binaries, which you can get by decrypting them (latest scripts for that should be on hexkyzs twitter).

I still think that for the things i use , Sx Os its still easiest , for example cheats , im watching a lot of post on how do i enable cheats ?
Or cheats ar not working .
If i would like to change to atmosphere i will have to read a tutorial on where to put his folder , or how to active this options for the cheats.
In the meantime im sticking to Sxos for now :-)

verbally aggressive ? you mean the TX haters (your one yourself) who fill every SX thread with your aggression

Hey man ! great you saw this :D. is there a reason to believe atmosphere will have emunand or silently abandone it ? is still in progress but no news... man... lol

Atmosphere is not working on it. There is a well-established developer who has been working on it as a side project (he has many) so its one of those "I'll make progress when I get the urge to" scenario's.

I've worked with a lot of developers who do this, and have sometimes up to a dozen different projects. This is very common. I see this happen a lot with writers as well who write multiple books at once, and I know that in my personal life I always have at the least a half dozen projects going on at the same time. It means it takes longer for these things to see the day of light, but this type of behavior is on purpose - it prevents burn out. When you get too hyper focused on one thing you can burn yourself out to the point that you quit. Balancing other projects helps keep the mind fresh.

Frankly, its not a very important issue, except for those who are ideologically opposed to corportism in our community (xecuter) and would like to see the final "big" feature provided by sx os be distributed for free....which is to say that I myself personally find this topic important, but in the bigger picture of things (other projects) its less so of a priority.

iriez, did you think _Bison_ worked for TX when you liked his post back in November ?

I can answer this, since I fully understand how this sploit works (and wrote it independently myself).

They did not pwn TSEC at all. What the sploit does is fool TSEC into thinking it's running with sole full control of the system (it thinks the CPUs / DMA are halted). Only then will it continue to generate the keys and decrypt the package1. To fool the TSEC, it needs to read the same constant values from MMIO memory space. This can be done by remapping the address space into DRAM by using SMMU translation. If a single bit from this space is different (like say the BPMP CPU is still running, the IO space would reflect that) then the TSEC would detect it. But by mimicing the same values in DRAM, the TSEC is fooled and continues decrypting package1.

To actually pwn TSEC you need to get code execution in the authenticated mode of the TSEC, which can then be used to reveal TSEC secrets. To date, nobody (and I'm pretty sure not even reswitched or switchbrew) has managed to do this.
