Do you think that Nintendo will make it so a game like Metroid Prime 4 will only run on a 2nd generation unhackable switch or a unhackable firmware?
Any reason to be worried as a extreme pirate??

i doubt it for nsp's dumped from eshop (which is risky on it's own) carts may have AP like on the DS (Pokemon hg/ss b/w(2) to name some) where dumping it to an xci/nsp would trigger the AP but nothing we can't do with patching the xci's

They could try, whether they will try is another matter & how long it would take to be broken is something else.

It happened for a while on the PS3.

If they released a game now that required 7.0.0 then it may as well be an unhackable firmware.

They could release games with new encryption schemes, with required firmware updates to use them.

But it's generally only a matter of time before they get cracked again anyway.

First, it'll probably be years for Metroid Prime 4, retro studios just took over the project, AAA quality games usually have around a 3 year turn around. Next, we dont know maybe a new key will come out that we cant crack for some reason, that doesn't mean we will never get it, but it might take a while, few months, who knows maybe longer, but the switch is pretty popular and pretty cracked open, so it SHOULD happen fast, but who knows, none of us know the future, you just have to wait and see, you could be dead tomorrow.

If Ninty releases a game that requires 7.0.0 just find one of the few people who have the 7.0.0 keys and ask them to re-encrypt it with 6.2.0 keys or something and hope that it'll work :shrek:

Nintendo beefing up their countermeasures against hacks in the long run, highly unlikely. Nintendo consoles has been hacked many times over the decades, it only takes just 1 genius person out of a million to find an exploit for it and it becomes available to the public. It's a cycle that never ends.

Doubtful. They want to leverage as many people as possible to buy these games, so they won't limit it to new models. "new 3ds only" games all came rather late in the 3ds life, and we're very much closer to the beginning than the end of the switch life.

New firmware is perfectly possible, and may make it harder to play immediately. But everyone will have a free emunand that works well by then, so I doubt it'll be a problem.

tl;dr, no need to worry.

The equivalent to old school android root checks and possibly even SafetyNet style checks for online games while online is a possibility. Android and IOS devices do this now for some games and banking apps and require further steps to bypass these checks.

Always online could be a option to stop piracy on switch. Mario Maker 2 will be a very limited game on a hacked console
This was a case for a very long time in PCMR and because of too big server traffic, often server shutdowns, etc. every SP game now doesn't have "always online" feature.
And remember X One announcement. It was a PR disaster. We have portable console without way to play outside without Wi-Fi, so this makes it even worse.
