Do you enjoy playing the latest video game releases? Is writing your strong suit? Then we want you!

GBAtemp is looking to hire some new contributors for our lovely Magazine Staff. Your role would be to write timely reviews for new games, ranging from indies, to AAA hits, helping GBAtemp with review coverage on our front page. If you're interested, then we're looking for the following:
  • Be able to write reviews efficiently.
  • Have good understanding and comprehension of the English language.
  • Know how to create well paced and interesting reviews for new video games.
  • Having a gaming PC, Nintendo Switch, and/or PlayStation 4 in order to take on the review codes. (PS4 users are highly wanted)
Magazine Staff users benefit from their role on the site, gaining certain privileges, such as:
  • Receiving games to review for free, sometimes even weeks before official release.
  • You get a nice orange banner, and it comes with a bonus newspaper!
  • Helping guide the future of our editorial team.
  • Once you write three official reviews, you get your own OpenCritic profile, which showcases your reviews on a professional critic site.
Please note that this is not a Reporter or Moderator position, as we currently have those roles fulfilled by current staff! Once hired, you would be expected to join GBAtemp's Magazine Staff Telegram chat, and discuss events and related duties within the app. (And of course, joke around along with everyone, too!)

If you're interested in applying, you can click the link below to send @T-hug and @Chary a private message with your application. Let us know why you want to apply, what makes you think you have what it takes, and proof of your prior writing experience. If you lack the latter, you'll be asked to write a review in our Review Center, linked here.

 Send your application here!

Applications will be accepted until March 20th.

I do quite enjoy writing in general, Heck, I run a writing forumn

would it be fine if I reviewed some games, and then sent in an application? (since deadline is March 20th)
because I only have one review online and I'm not proud of it to say the least.

I would like to help out with reviews and such.
I used to do reviews and other stuff like Music Sheets, Game-specific entries for certain games for RelyOnHorror like 8 years ago, but sadly parted ways due to some changes in the site.

You guys can find my review for Resident Evil 5 I did for the site here:
https://www.relyonhorror.com/reviews/review-resident-evil-5/

Only problem would be that I own nothing but a Switch, and it's really outdated in FW. :/
I have no other console nor PC to actually play/review games that I could get the hands on, but I would still love to make reviews for the Temp.

Best of luck to everyone else applying!

That's why the deadline is so far out. Just submit it to the review center when you're happy with it! Newer games are generally better than retro ones fwiw, since it gives a better idea of how you'd be writing reviews for the site.

I don’t have an upto date PS4, else I would :(

I’m unemployed and loving the PS4 homebrew scene at the moment.
Dang! If you have other current gen systems, a PS4 isn’t a necessity. Would’ve loved to see an application from you.

As said at the bottom of the OP, you’re free to write a review or two in the review center if you’d like to! :)

I can write a application review if needed but I'd love a shot. Been around this site for 11 years and think I'd fit in quite well

A review and submitting an application would be much appreciated. It just makes it easier to compare each of the applications, and for us to get a better idea of everyone’s writing ability.

@Chary why is ps4 highly wanted?
A very large majority of our review codes from Namco/NIS/Spike/Capcom/literally freaking everyone are for the PS4. Of course, we usually get the chance to swap them out for PC codes, but for more high profile games, where review copies are limited, we usually get stuck with the PS4 version. Ideally, we’d like to get like, one person with a PS4.
@Chary I have up to date Xbox one and switch... :)
Perfect!

So what's exactly is bad about that? I just checked the review section. There is like fifth-teen pages of ps4 reviews. Clearly people have it.

Before I recently got a PS4, it was just Chary and SonyUSA. There's Foxi too on occasion, but he's a mod now so has other things to focus on. PS4 users have been highly desired since before I was hired, this isn't exactly some sudden rush of demand lol

Mmmh I like writing and do review of game I like but English isn't my native language. But I might try if I find the motivation :) I haven't wrote a review for quite some time (and the ones I wrote in the past are in French ahah) so I'll maybe post some on the review center, and if it's isn't horrible I will maybe try my chance ^^ (I have a pc switch and ps4)
