Your thoughts about "medical suicide assistance" law

Also, people in vegetable state aren't themselves anymore. If I had a loved one who was like a vegetable, I'd say I'd rather let him/her go than continue to keep alive in that state, it'd be too painful and letting go is the first stage.

There's a new concept being discussed about recently
A "trusted person"
In short, if someone isn't mentally able to decide to be euthanasied, the trusted person can decide for him/her
I'm talking here about vegetative brain or alzeihmer or such...

It is not really a new concept as much as an extension of existing medical proxy/healthcare proxy concepts.
I mean, here in Quebec it's a new concept
As in... before, it was an agreement between family members or close person such as husband or wife
Now, this concept, the person name a trusted person for himself
it will be officially registered and only this person can tell when to pull the plug

I am so for people wanting to kill themselves. I know most of these M.A.S. cases are for people who have six months to "live", but I know people who beat cancer and some who didn't, but they all tell me, "It feels like there are embers burning through my body."

Some cancers are worse than others and some diseases are worse than cancer; the level of suffering is near-unfathomable, especially when you know you'll suffer until you die. At that point, it's much easier to end your life.

I'm definitely for people who want to commit suicide in a safe way, on any level. If you're suffering and see no way out, you shouldn't have to get creative to kill yourself and scar someone else.

Families arguing for it where capacity might be lacking... tricky.

exactly, who decides if they had capacity in the past to sign something or they have capacity now to make the decision, mental capacity can fluctuate , as we know it can be effected by drugs.

and who decides if the family member has the capacity to make the decision, this could lead to abuse by family members.

Okay, agreed.
In a minor note, odd to see you have moved from Portugal to Sweden.

On the actual note, yeah, it's painful all around--the one afflicted suffers physical, mental, and spiritual pain (knowing you will die and why you'll die) and the family has to watch as the afflicted one suffers, with no ability to help them other than comfort in the fact of, "We're here for you" (worse for people who have no one) or taking solace in the fact you won't have to suffer through months of agony, but you still die and those around you can't do anything about it other than hasten your death.

This life, it really hurts.

I think that if medical suicide assistance we're legal in the states, you should be a required organ donor. However, I'm not sure if the chemicals involved in euthanasia would allow for this. Maybe a way to euthanize while preserving organs for someone who wants to live.

Oh God, those drugs are horrible. There are soooooooooooooooo many ways to die (over 1000), but I think my favorite is draining the blood until you pass out. It's economical, it's drug-free, it's easy, etc,.

Although, most people who have gotten to the stage of dying really shouldn't donate their organs--rather, they should donate their body to science to see if another life and future lives can be saved from their sacrifice.

If they are healthy and the method for euthanasia is non-toxic to potential donor organs, I think requiring organ donation is the way to go. On the other hand, I agree that people with diseased/unhealthy organs should instead donate to science.

Except some people might find it morally wrong to share their organs. I don't think it reasonable to force, as a requirement, being an organ donor. Yes, it should be strongly encouraged. Personally, I've always had myself as an organ donor precisely because once I'm dead, I have no moral/ethical feelings about my corpse. Yet, I respect that other people don't want their corpses desecrated by whatever standard they think qualifies.
