Slightly Mad Studios chooses final design for its Mad Box console

After teasing a couple of possible designs for their upcoming Mad Box console, Slightly Mad Studios' CEO Ian Bell revealed via Twitter the design that the company has opted for. If you were following the recent flow of design concepts shared, then you will recognize it as the fourth render, the futuristic-looking rectangular shaped one that supports three orientations: horizontal, vertical and wall mounted. It also features a front touch screen that supports slide, click and tap actions while displaying what is currently being played. Ian Bell further adds that the design "might be slightly amended over time...".

The company's founder later posted another tweet with a concept video teasing the console running games and other media:

Do you approve of the console's design? What would you like to see changed or improved in the final look?

Not a fan, but at least it was the most reasonable between all the proposed designs.

I still would've preferred the cube but it wasn't clear how big it would've been so it could've ended up being too clumsy.

Correction: they chose the concept design that will inspire the actual final design of the finished console.

If you're familiar with the product design and manufacture process of an average piece of hardware, you'll know it's not just "two steps forward, one step back", it's "two steps forward, one step back, one step sideways, jump to the left, step to the right, pelvic thrust, repeat".

Why would it need a touch panel?
Why would I get up to touch it when I can just press a button on the controller or whatever input device?
The only input needed would be a power button and maybe a reset button.

Now we need a redesign with physical media in mind.

Also, can't wait to see the controller.
