Homebrew Uninstalled luma 11.8, accidentally updated to 11.8

Ok, so a while ago I installed Luma CFW on my 3ds which was 11.8. then I uninstalled it but I think the Homebrew files are still on the system. I accidentally updated to 11.9 later, can I still re-install 11.8 Luma?

Why did you uninstall the CFW? If you have any problems, this is not a way to solve them. There is a nice sticky thread about this:
"You don't need to remove B9S" The guide to proper troubleshooting
By uninstalling you delete the tools that could help you solving any problems. It’s like leaving the house and shutting the door without taking the key with you.
Even worse is the possibility of bricking the device if system files have been modified.

Okay, that being said: Are you really sure you uninstalled B9S? Did you use the uninstall option of the GM9Megascript?

In general reinstalling the CFW is possible. Version 11.9 leaves you the options ntrboot with a compatible flashcart and Frogminer and hardmod if you’re very good at soldering.

I'm pretty sure I uninstalled it becaude I wanted to use an online feature - sorry, I really don't Homebrew much and I'm somewhat new to it... I also think I used that uninstall option in the megascript. Yet I installed luma with Sudoku, and whenever I boot that up the CFW interface resurfaces...? Thank you for your advice and warnings though, I should've thought twice.

The CFW does not interfere with online features. And unless you do really stupid things like cheating online or playing leaked games before official release, there is almost no ban risk on the 3DS.

Please describe this a little more. What interface do you mean? Upload a photo if possible.

For the case the spam protection does not allow you (because you're a new member) to post a picture or a link to an imageboard send the link with some blanks:

Somehow it won't even allow me to submit a spaced link or pictures. But it's a screen saying "b9sTool" 5.0.0, saying how many MB are free on my SD card, saying "NEW 3DS" and with choices of "exit" and "install boot9strap so I'm guessing it's still there in the files.

Thank you a lot! I did so, and nothing happened, so I'm guessing I could at least start preparing the files for upload onto the SD card.

Can you try another litmus test to verify you don't have custom firmware?

2. Extract the boot.firm and place it on the root of your SD card. Use 7-Zip.
3. Reinsert the card into the 3DS, turn the system on, and hold the (Select) button.

Do you see this?

Actually, I've connected my 3DS to my laptop and here I find a moderately old Luma folder... Godmode is untouched, so is the Luma folder, and some .bin files. That means all my cfw files are still on the console? Should I re-install them if I want to?

The presence of custom firmware files and folders are not enough to go by in determining whether or not your 3DS system still has custom firmware installed.

The litmus tests suggested by KleinesSinchen and I are the sure proof ways in confirming whether you still have it or not. If you follow the Frogminer method and mistakenly try to install custom firmware with it already on, you can end up bricking the 3DS. Because removing custom firmware may leave behind orphaned files, the B9STool may misidentify your system still having custom firmware. You can override the warning but only if you're positively sure there is no CFW.

Okay, I think you're good to go continuing with rehacking the 3DS using Frogminer, but just to be extra safe, I'm going quote someone who knows this better.

First of all, why did you uninstall CFW to begin with? You could've gone from A9LH to B9S without doing the whole frogminer procedure. But anyway...

Ok so, just to be sure, power off the console, hold Start, then power it on while keeping start pressed. Then power it off, and do the same with Select. Only proceed if the console boots normally to the home menu in both cases (which means you don't have CFW), if you get anything else don't proceed or you'll brick.
After you tested that you don't have CFW, take the SD card and plug it in your PC, go into the boot9strap folder, and you'll find a file called key.bin. Take that file, and rename it to danger_skip_a9lh.bin
After that power on the console, go into the Download Play application, and select download DS to boot into Flipnote JPN. Redo the steps to launch b9stool and this time you'll be able to install b9s

No need to start from scratch.
If all the required files are still on the SD, you can simply launch b9sTool, press install, then follow

• Copy boot.3dsx to the root of the 3DS SD card, available here.

1. Boot the target 3DS while holding (Select) to launch the Luma configuration menu
2. Use the (A) button and the D-Pad to turn on the following:
   • “Show NAND or user string in System Settings”
3. Press (Start) to save and reboot
   • If you get a black screen, follow this troubleshooting guide

Hm, the console says "only use for 11.8"... But still, thank you. I think I will re-install and launch the Luma I have on my 3ds.
