How hard is it to patch 2DS / New 2DS XL? Do I need to dismantle it and do some soldering or is it as easy as patching Wii? Which one is better for patching: 2DS with NSMB2 Special Ed. or New 2DS XL no game preloaded?
Cakewalk-level easy. Here is the recommendedguide.

It doesn't matter which system you choose. The one you like the most, I guess? Maybe both?

3ds noob here so......
I intend to follows 3ds hacks guide instruction and my brand new 2DS XL has firmware 11.6.0
Rather than purchasing a compatible flashcart, can I just connect wifi, update to latest (11.9.0?) and follow the frogminer route?

thanks for any assistance
:)

So i has been a while since I been part of this community. Last upgrade i did to my new 3ds was to 11.2.0-35u and now it looks like 11.4.0u is needed to play Ultra Sun. So I been trying to peruse the net for a clean tutorial from this to the other and i cant find one. Can you please help me figure out to upgrade to 11.4.0u from 11.2.0-35u orr if i really need it to be upgraded that far to begin with.

Any help is good help. Thanks in advance.

Pretty much all games are fine to go online with. Simply none that are early releases.
So basically close to all game cias are legit cias that won’t get you banned by using online and that early release games are never meant to be used online until official release in hopes of not getting banned?

CIAs you build yourself from cartridges or download from illegal sources are normally not legit CIAs (but won’t lead to a ban and going online is fine).

Legit CIA means valid ticket/valid signature. A legit installed CIA continues to work after uninstalling CFW (BAD IDEA!) which patches the signature checks. There are two kinds of legit CIAs:
  • Signed for a single console (titles bought on the Eshop)
  • Signed for all 2/3DS consoles (the preinstalled games @lone_wolf323 mentioned and system titles like the Home Menu itself, the crappy internet browser, Face Raiders, Download Play,…)
GodMode9 can build legit CIAs from system titles (should be universal) and paid Eshop games (only usable for the console you build them on).
Normally you should use the option “Build CIA (standard)” when dumping your games and only use the “Build CIA (legit)” for dumping system titles and maybe paid Eshop content (but it remains usable only on this particular console, so standard is still the better option)

A little warning: Do not play around with system titles, especially if you don’t have a (recent) NAND-backup and an ntrboot flashcart.

I've not used my 3DS for some time. Now I want to play. There was firmware 11.6 with B9S and Luma3DS.
I've updated Luma Updater. Next i've updated Luma3DS to 9.1 with it (giving permission to touch CTR-NAND) and FW to 11.9.
I've deleted some old homebrew and reinstalled fresh CIAs with FBI (Checkpoint, ftpd).
Did I've missed something or I am geared up?

Can I install Twilight Menu and play DSiWare in nds format on 3DS? Any other means? I recently find out I can't hack actual DSi to play them.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

i dont have an sd card adapter but I have an usb sd card adapter

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
It's old but it's the best firmware out for DS stuff
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
it says it only works for the original R4, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn), R4iDSN (r4idsn.com) and Acekard R.P.G.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    nvm it does support mine
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
