SXOS251.jpg

Team-Xecuter is off to a fresh start with the New Year 2019, first they upgraded their outdated forums and launched their brand-new TX Community to give better customer support for their growing line-up of products, and now they cranked out a new SX OS v2.5.1 BETA for all those to enjoy with much needed 'bug fixes' and improved LAN-Play support, and they even had time to throw in new 'SX OS Feature' for everyone to enjoy, so check it out below, and start out the New Year Switch Happy! :)
Happy New Year, everybody!

We hope you've all had a smooth transition into the year 2019. Your friends from Team-Xecuter would like to kick off the new year with a small update to SX OS.

Lets waste no time and see what's new in 2.5.1:

  • LayeredFS compatibility fixes
It appears we introduced a regression in "LayeredFS" support in 2.5.0. This affected certain game mods like fan translations. This has been tracked down and fixed!
  • Improved Internet Local Wireless Play
Numerous stability fixes and improvements have been made to the Internet Local Wireless Play functionality.
  • Fixed false positive 'corrupted' message for installer
The Switch software management menu has an option for verifying the integrity of installed titles. When using this functionality with titles that have been installed through our NSP installer you would always get a message saying the title data is corrupt. This was mostly a false positive as the installed titles worked fine.. but we've hunted down the root cause of this and fixed this cosmetic shortcoming for all new installs!
  • Add support for installing XCI
You read it right, as of now you can also *install* titles that come in XCI format, just as you would be able to do for any content that comes in NSP format. This is useful for people who would like to access all of their games from the home menu screen instead of going through our menu. Of course you can still play XCI titles without installing as well!
That's it for today. The year is still young. Hang in there to see what we are cooking up in our labs!
(As usual, please remember all of TX latest releases & apps, can be found on their SX Portal website)

Don't think I will install the xci. If I'm not mistaken the nsp have the problem that if you remove them you will also remove the dlc and updates of the game, but instead with the xci you can remove the xci only. Sometimes I switch games and I want the dlc/updates to remain there.

Is there anyone out there who updated from 2.0.1 to this? I heard that on earlier versions your NSP installs would not work - is it the same with this one? Any help shall be greatly appreciated!

Well I guess people that use it for free can now sort of use XCI files...

It's been possible for a long time though (convert XCI -> NSP and then install). The single good feature in SX OS is the ability to load XCI files without installing them. This is basically just like installing NSPs, it takes double the space unless you're installing from a drive or something.

Wait, are you two saying that XCI can be installed free without an SXOS license? Is the only reason to get the SX OS license for XCI mounting?

It wouldn't matter to opensource users b/c its essentially the same as nsp

Well I am wondering for SXOS if it can be used for free as well, was wondering if XCI install is free built in feature now or are they locking it down as a licensed feature? Doesn't make sense that they would lock it down if they can freely install an NSP. Just wanted to confirm.

When you buy a license for the sxos you gain access to the features in future updates as well. You don't need to pay for everything they release. Yes its built in aslong you are on the latest updates

Yes but you can use SXOS without a license. Without a license you should have access to everything except for XCI Loading / Mounting. Now with this new version did they lock down XCI installing or is it available for users without a license?

I'm sure its license locked since the sxos is the only way to utilize xci content, but even so its the same thing as nsp installing with or without a license. This is just a convenient update for xci users that are tired of using the sx loader screen. It wouldn't benefit free users b/c they already have nsp installation. What free users really want is xci loading/HDD support well those that want to broaden their options.

I haven't done anything with my switch yet, what do peoplerecommend: buying sxos, using using free version for homebrew nsps, or using atmosphere or reinx instead?

Sounds like main advantage of sx os is xci mounting and using an external hard drive for xci correct?

Being watching from the sidelines since I bought my switch in June to see how things played out.

Unless you want XCI support and booting from an external drive, atmosphere. If you want those two things SX OS. It's that simple.
