I just booted up my switch for the first time, copied my SX Pro files to my Microsd, used the jig and dongle and booted up in to the SX OS.

Before doing anything I wanted to backup my nand, for whatever reason the instructions don’t even mention it.

I often don’t see people mentioning the SX OS nand backup feature, any reason I shouldn’t be using it or trusting it?

Am I right that this should be the first thing I do?

Yes, you should definitely do a nand backup. I don't know how good the SX OS nand backup tool is. I'd either wait for someone to confirm it's fine or just use Hekate to be safe.

So I completed the dump of my nand using SX OS and it created 10 files, boot0.bin, boot1.bin, and full.00.bin-full.07.bin

They total 29.1GB in size.

Sounds right?

sounds right. I have used SXOS to backup and RESTORE my NAND several times. It works fine. Everyone around here is butt hurt at Team Xcuter for stealing code so they always recommend other avenues. It's ridiculous that some pirates pirated some code that was meant to pirate Nintendo's code and then the pirates got all hurt about it. Any question regarding SXOS or Team Xcuter WILL get trolled to shit around here. Beware. The same 10 or so IDIOT TROLLS every time. Same with Gateway. Don't listen to the idjits. SXOS handles everything it's designed to do at this point.

What I'd do is make a backup with SX and Hekate without booting Horizon between them and compare them to each other. If they match, great, if not, I'd rather trust Hekate's dump.

SXOS nand backup is easy breezy & very simple to use. Just follow the directions as prompts. But do make sure your switch is charged fully because the nand backup will take over an hour to complete. And your microSD has minimun of +25GB free space.

Now lets not get into these topics; stick with the original thread discussion please. Admins' are watching ;)

Ok so since I have SX OS users here, I got the nand dump done, I activated my license, activated emunand, and running SX OS 2.1, and Switch firmware 4.1.0

My 200GB SD was formatted exfat so I wouldn’t have to deal with splitting files but now I get a nag message telling me I need a system update for the switch to be able to use my microsxdc.

What do I do? Do I update the emunand? Is there a way to update it offline because I never want to put this Switch online.

Is there a simpler solution?

How can I tell from the switch if I’m really booted in emunand?

Thanks!

Couldn’t I update to latest version of OS since I’m on emunand? Wouldn’t that solve my problem?

If so, how do I confirm I’m actually on emunand?

Update with ChoiDujourNX

Only other option is to use FAT32 and split the files.

Ok thanks, I’ll google that tool but is there any reason I don’t want to update my emunand?

Or is that what ChoiDujourNX does? It updates my emunand offline?

If you update your emunand officially through Nintendo prompt you could be banned, don't do it. Use choidujourNx to update only emunand to latest fmw, with this app you can update both fmw and exfat. Search YouTube for tutorial, it's very easy. You can see you are booted in emunand by Sx os startup menù, there is "emunand enabled" written on top, you can't miss it ;) I suggest to erase your emu and use 2.5 os to create SD based emunand. It's safer than previous one. Let me know your progress ;) bye!

Thanks , I didn’t see your message in time but I did download choidujourNx and I successfully update my nand to 6.2.0 and I got all my .XCI games working! So kids will be happy for tomorrow!

By any chance is there a way to lock out access to Album and internet settings?

It’s too late tonight to do the SD emunand, I don’t want to break anything at this point, I guess I’m safe not being connected to the internet.

You could check in your router settings if there's an option to block the switch mac adress. That way they wouldn't be able to connect. AFAIK you can't block the switch or sxos settings from being accessed

I m glad to see you 're good with your settings! Sx os has "stealth mode" to prevent internet access to nint services. You could tell your kid not to mess with that option ;) however, now you are fine to go. Have a great Christmas day

Ok cool, I’m dumping it right now, I seem to remember everyone recommending Hekate over it but I’m not sure why.
Hekate does a verification of the dump to check whether everything is fine, SX does not. I do the NAND dumps with SX anyway. Once a month or so, or after every major FW update

Ok so just one small snag, I placed like 6 .XCI games on my card and installed them from the Album and they show up in the Switch menu after that.

The only game that actually loads is Super Smash Bros, the other games all say to insert the cart .

Not sure what I’m doing wrong, any help would be appreciated.
