Hey everyone,

I was really focused on beating my 3DS library, so I only followed Switch development out of the corner of my eye. Now I am ready to hack my Switch. I have a jig at hand, but I don't mind paying money if what I need is SX OS, I just want the ideal solution.

I am looking for this setup:

The firmware is 4.1. I want two partitions, a main one used for legit gaming so I can play Smash and buy DLC (firmware 6+ then?) and a second partition dedicated to offline backups and emulators. I don't want these partitions to touch each other at all.

As I undertand, I cannot have them on different firmwares because of fuses? In my 3DS I kept the NAND on a lower one and EmuNAND at a higher, but in the request above I swapped this because I am working under the assumption I can't on the Switch.

Please help! Needing a light here.

Nintendo could see I have a EmuNAND partition?
We dont know exactly what they can see yet. Weve just had ban reports from just about every imaginable scenario. Therefore we all conclude that the only 100% method to stay ban free is to not touch anything homebrew related. Including CFW.

Some will report that they havent been banned by restoring old "clean" firmware and whatnot. Only to come back here months later asking for help due to a ban.

Wow. This is a weird moment for the scene, I suppose.

If I was to just play offline then, what is the most advantageous setup that we know of starting from clean 4.1? Does any setup help me by not burning fuses or with a particular EmuNAND setup that allows me to keep one partition lower firmware?

One of the telemetry fields sent to Nintendo is "max size of the console's NAND" so the SX OS way of emunand which partitions your NAND is obviously highly unsafe, and no otherworking emuNAND solution is available as of yet. Currently, the only thing you can do is wait until a proper solution is out (might take a few months or more).

Or go completely tabula rasa on your switch, which means you keep it clean, do a complete NAND backup of your clean NAND, then do whatever piracy related thing you want to do without ever connecting to the internet, then after you're done pirating, you restore your clean NAND and go back online. Rinse and repeat everytime you want to do something illegal on your switch. Backing up/restoring NAND is done in hekate outside the switch's OS so it should be invisible to Nintendo, as long as you don't go online in between.

Keep in mind that all of your saves are on your NAND, so don't do anything during your "dark" phase that you'd regret losing when you go back to your clean online NAND. Also, backing up and resoring NANDs takes an hour or two, so factor in some time.

Have fun.

Thank you a lot. Sounds like a fair solution. Will take it.

I would like advice on the path to the custom firmware, then... what firm should I be installing (is it between Atmosphere with sigpatches and Rei?) and is it worth it to do a fuseless update?

I'm still on 5.1 with sx and it's been a great experience. Frequent issues came up once 6.0 launched, but I think most have been resolved. I'm still not eager to update though since I've been able to play any and everything. Just don't go 6.2 yet if you do sx.

Oh, and the hope of using CFW and playing online on the same device, no matter how you cut it, just ain't going to happen without an eventual ban.

Supposing I do not get SX (because my main interest there was EmuNAND), is ReiNX without burning fuses the way to go?

ReiNX or Atmosphere as they are both VERY similar. I do also advise you to get yourself a dongle and jig, the NS Atmosphere dongle is REALLY good and super cheap too

Doesn't SX OS have the ability to have emuNAND on your SD card now? So your console's max nand size won't be increased? I'm not saying it's a proper emunand, just slightly better than advertised.

I believe sdsetup.com is the way to go.
This is a great resource... it should be pinned everywhere and anywhere.

Atmosphere has a dongle now? Going after it... didn't want to shell the price of a (discounted) game on the SX one.

Thank you for your service,
I know you are joking, but at the same time, I contributed more to the NDS scene than anybody will ever know. And I don't care they don't know.

You dont need a dongle, they can be handy and all to have, I find myself needing to inject a payload so rarely I usually just use my PC, I do have a Pi set up for the job as well.

As has been said hit up the sdsetup.com grab kosmos package and it should have pretty much everything you need to get started.

After you have made a FULL (boot and rawnand) virgin backup in hekate, set autoRCM (unit will always boot in that mode, without a jig). Plus in your instance, you'll want that on to prevent ever accidently booting into OFW!

I was thinking the same thing when I read that post. I'll likely order SX OS soon, or when 6.2 comes out, as I prefer emuNAND on the SD.

And also it's been stated that the inNand Emunand SXOX does is not a partition, but are just folders in the same partition. I don't remember where I saw it here so I cannot link it as a source, but the telemetry @Krude refered to wouldn't aply to this.
But still, I think the best thing atm would be the SD emunand. Not saying it's perfect and you won't be banned, but afaik there is no person banned from using the Emunand offline and the Sysnand (no CFW or RCM) online.

ReiNX or SXOS are just "copycats" of atmosphere, whit aditional features but a little bit outdated, atmosphere is the way to go if no playing backups, sxos is the way to go if playing backups, reinx in this moment is not really the way to go as you can do everything reinx can do in atmosphere, but more stable

Is the new SX OS beta version EmuNAND already being tested in the wild? Have there been posts about it at this point?
