I am not being high and mighty as you put it, I am simply incredulous at the lack of common sense and lack of even the smallest amount of investigation other than quoting what others are posting in the same thread.
I already mention that we, as members of the gbatemp community are often very much versed in these things and have lots of experience from other hacks and system as to what to do and what not to do. But not everyone is like us. For some the switch might be the first console they hack. It's new or unfamiliar territory for them. Some people don't know what a software exploit is.
So let's play this through. We are taking the role of User McUserface from the scottish highlands. We played the DS back in 2011 and bought our switch back at launch and decide to hack our switch now because we have heard about SX OS on a youtube video from July. We're not unfamiliar with gaming but other than our R4 we used back then, we never ventured into more modern systems.
We enter SX OS in google, as a result we get the product page (
https://sx.xecuter.com/)
We read the following sentence.
"SX OS Works with every Nintendo Switch console released before June 2018 out there. On every firmware version!"
This basically tells us that our switch needs 2 pre-requisites. It needs to be manufactured before june and it can be on any firmware version. And before you re-iterate again: I do know that the following sentence ("If in doubt, please check here if your switch is compatible") has a link to check if your switch is compatible but:
a) why would I be in doubt? The sentence before that has already told us our switch is compatible.
b) this link might not be accessible (as evidenced by the following screenshot) for whatever reason. We are not a network expert so maybe that link is just dead or currently unavailable. But that doesn't matter. We already know our switch is compatible. The makers of the product say so.
So, we buy the OS, maybe even the dongle and try to run it. Works just fine, everything is great. Then, one day, we go online to play Mario Kart 8 and our system tells us to update. So we update. Suddenly our SX OS stops working. So we get online search why it wouldn't work and either land in the tx forums (if we can enter them, see screenshot above) or maybe GBAtemp because it's a large gaming forum. Maybe we also still have an old GBAtemp account because we were looking into DS flashcards at some point and registered there. Maybe we were lurking for a while already, who knows. But we're not deep into the hacking """scene""" we just occassionally glance at it.
Either way, we find out that the update is incomatible with the product we payed for. Bummer. Apparently a lot of people are having this issue. Let's read up on it. Ah yes, ok. This might take a while. We're sad. Oh look, they already fixed the issue, soon we'll be able to play our free games again, people are already saying they can run hacks on their system again. Surely the manufacturers must be able to provide a fix very soon.
*1 week passes*
well, there's still no fix. Let's better ask if anyone knows something or maybe use the thread we just found to mention that we are also waiting for a fix for our product.
We don't get many helpfull responses, some facecious jokes. And then there's guys like you who - for no reason - call us a retard or an idiot for updating or not roaming every possible hacking website.
When we purchased the product, it never told us not to update. Heck, their page still says it works on every firmware. Why are we the idiot now?
Behaviour like yours is not helpfull, it's toxic. Just because someone didn't roam all possible sources available on the internet doesn't make them a retard. Teach them to become better, don't drive them away by being hostile. Don't assume that everyone knows exactly everything you do. Imagine your average user and then assume half know even less than that. No one is an idiot for knowing less than you.
