Hi! I've been living under a rock, and the last time I played with my o3dsxl was in 2015. Just got me a used n3dsxl with ver 11.1.0 34U CFW and i'm totally lost. I would love to update to the latest version but I dont know my Luma3ds version and i cant use the Luma3ds updater. I already tried pressing start on boot up but it doesnt show anything about any version. Could someone kindly point me to the right direction? I've been reading for a good couple of days now and i'm about to lose my head.

Thank you so much in advance!

Turn on the n3DSXL and hold (Select) to access Luma3DS configuration. Look for the version number boxed in green.

For Luma3DS v7.0.5 and older (arm9loaderhax):

For Luma3DS v7.1–v9.0 with boot9strap v1.0–v1.2:
  • Updating B9S
  • Optional: You may cheat a little in collecting files by using this starter kit from here.

Thank you for the reply, but this is all im getting, without any option to look at the configuration. I've been reading and im puzzled why my system version is Emu 11.1.0-34U. It's supposed to be SysNAND that I'm using, right? I'm going bald trying to figure this out

Ok that's a huge leap there. Could you point me to the right direction on how to end up using B9S on 11.9? Thank you so much man

"For Luma3DS v7.0.5 and older (arm9loaderhax):
  • A9LH to B9S"

So in theory i start on that and I can safely reach my goal if i follow the steps? Damn, i can't wait to do this. I hope I dont mess it up though.

I'll gladly post some screencaps once i find my sd card reader. I'll make sure to post before I do anything stupid. Thank you sir. I think i'll be getting enough sleep after this :yay:

In theory, yes. You'll need to find your SD reader to put files on your SD necessary for hacking...unless you plan to FTP the files.

Good luck to you.

If its only "in theory" then would uninstalling through gm9, then starting over from the boot9strap tutorial be an safer option?

"in theory"

I applied a theory to a could-have-been-hypothesis.

You should already know, modding always comes with a risk, but this is keeping everything in context with responses.

One thing you should think of: no one besides OP knows whats going on (A9, *hax, etc,) on that SD....which is why I said, "...screencap your 3DS SD..."

You are using Menuhax or manually-launched equivalents of it, since you are using .dat arm9 homebrews

You should follow Plailect's guide from scratch (as if you had an unmodified console on 9.2 or whatever your sysnand is); at some point in the guide, you will move your emunand to the sysnand (once you reach that point it will be fine to update sysnand)

I wouldn't jump in so fast...."Hi! I've been living under a rock, and the last time I played with my o3dsxl was in 2015. Just got me a used n3dsxl with ver 11.1.0 34U CFW and i'm totally lost."

Definitely plausible that the previous owner left stuff on the SD, because reasons. OP could have tried the old hax (2015) method and took a picture.

We should have certainty before making suggestions.

It's a possibility, but I wouldn't advise telling someone who hasn't been staying up-to-date on hacking, especially if they bought a console off of another person.
I don't understand what you mean, especially with the part you quoted: the older his knowledge and acquired-setup, the more likely it is the way I assumed - loading emunand through an exploit in the main sysnand kernel (instead of having replaced it with A9LH or B9S), meaning sysnand would be at a prime version for being exploitable "as if new"!

You'll totally help OP from the ground up, right? Promise?
If they are capable of reading and performing (bonus points for understanding) what is written, why shouldn't they deserve my help? :)

Thanks for the help guys. Ill certainly be spending more time reading on it. Maybe the first step should be posting the files on my sd card to get a better understanding on what my current setup is. I just hope i can find/buy an sd card reader within the day. At least now i feel safer :yaynds::yaynds:

I mean...if you really can't find a decent SD reader, you could use your cell phone.

Don't know where you're from, but I got this:

from walmart. A 33-in-1 SD reader with a M-M "extension" cable.

There's also FTP and I think 3DS can do that natively, but it might just be for other crap:
