all apps are checked at boot.
the best you can have to get that homebrew inside a system app without signature check patched is to use the browserhax, it will temporarily (until you shutdown) put it into the MiiMaker channel. it's a memory patch, so the miimaker file is still good signed when checked by the console, but it's HBL program which is loaded from memory.

if what you want is a channel (not system), then you need signature patch from a custom firmware. either haxchi or cbhc, and install the channel version of Homebrew Launcher.
CBHC+HBL channel is probably the easiest to get access to homebrew right away from a channel.
May I ask how haxchi works if all apps are checked at boot?

haxchi is a content app that is why it requires an officially legit owned ds vc title, basically we change the content and save file but its a legit app with legit certificate thats how it works.

I explained it somewhere, but I don't want to search -o-

All titles on WiiU have 3 folders :
/code/ <-- contains the executable, signed and verified.
/content/ <-- contains addtional files (settings, binary). unsigned, not verified
/meta/ <-- contains title info (game's title in every language, icon, background image when launching the title, etc.), unsigned, unchecked.

if you create a program, and replace it in /code/ you can't launch it without signature check function patched. for example, HBL channel has the "hbl homebrew" executed, it's not signed and need CFW to be launched.

Haxchi is a NDS modified game with some additional function added to it:
/code/ <-- contain the NDS emulator
/content/ <-- NDS's ROM.zip (the game binary loaded by the emulator)
/meta/ (pictures)

Haxchi doesn't replace the emulator, but the NDS's game's ROM.
It's exploiting a vulnerability in the (unedited, still good signed) emulator, by loading a corrupted ROM.zip it crashes and execute haxchi's code location in the ROM instead of playing the ROM original game.

if you install haxchi in a pirated (WUPinstalled) NDS game, content in /code/ is not good signed and need CFW to launch, so it can't be used by haxchi.
you need cfw to launch haxchi to patch the console's signature check that you already have; that's useless.

if you set this NDS game as autoboot (with CBHC), you can launch it only if it's good signed, or else the emulator won't launch, and the console won't boot.

Thanks. Ok, i see. Would be sweet if we in the future would be able replace the .tga images by .h264 animations.
Do you have more information concerning where the different images are used? Think I can guess where the "iconTex.tga" is used, but what about the others? No access to my WiiU atm, otherwise I would have checked myself.

Thanks!

Can you help me change the bootMovie.h264 to a custom one? I already have a custom loadiine-GX Boot/splash screen with custom bootSound.btsnd that has a custom sound i created. :)

Could someone made this custom Loadiine-GX forwarder work with the latest release of loadiine-GX, please?

Can I delete the following folders from /wiiu/apps/ after I've installed CBHC?
cbhc/
haxchi/

I've installed the homebrew launcher channel, can I then delete /wiiu/apps/homebrew_launcher?

Does this work for 5.5.3?
When I try to use it I get FSGetMountSource failed error every time I boot into it, it's worked about 2 times for me

FSGetMountSourceFailed happens when the Homebrew Launcher isn't found, whether it be because it's not on the SD card or the Wii U isnt recognizing it, I'm not sure.
try taking out the sd card then plugging it back in as I know from experience older wii u's tend to have more unstable slots. if that doesn't work, blow out the slot with some air since that could be another issue.
since it's worked already for you a few times, it can be safe to assume that you have the file on your sd, and that the sd you have is not corrupted yet.

Okay so I'm on CBHC and have the homebrew channel installed, but I was wondering is there a way to restore the Miimaker channel and use just the homebrew launcher app?

Didn't you just write you have the homebrew channel installed? It's an own title then and doesn't bother the Miimaker channel.

No, I followed through the tutorial on Wii U hacks guide. I made the decision to just uninstall CFW last night. It's not worth it.

Was trying to set up Nintendont and have it on the system menu, but the guides for that either don't exist, or where talking about everything having be done by overwriting VC NDS games or haxchi.

It's a damn mess from my perspective. Not to mention without a computer Injecting is off limits to me.

Basically you only set it up once to have a CFW solution forever with which you can play games from all Nintendo Systems from NES/GB up to the Wii U (including Wii und GC thanks to the vWii obviously, also including many SEGA and other retro systems).
Well except for the 3DS.

Not to sound rude, but like I mentioned I uninstalled the CFW, and I've lost interest in it.

From what I've seen more then half the homebrew has been abandoned by the developers and the tutorials I've found for anything are way too outdated.

I'd rather not brick my Wii U over confusion of how to even install something on it.

The problem wasn't installing CFW it was that I have it set up with Coldboot Haxchi, and the Homebrew Launcher Channel does not function properly.

When I followed the tutorial I had a setup that put it in place of the Mii Channel. Now I've looked back into it, ran the exploit, reinstalled CBHC and currently can only load HBL during boot.

I've attempted to install 2.x which I believe is the stand-alone version, but it just crashes. It's driving me batty.

Install the HBL channel using WUP Installer GX2.
Since the HBL channel is no "official title" (since it's not signed by Nintendo) you need an active CFW (like Coldboot Haxchi) not only while you install it but everytime you run the channel (which shouldn't be a problem with CBHC since that applies a CFW on boot).

All I did was extract the launcher to the sd and now it won't even load into homebrew at all now. I get -5 on my gamepad.

Okay just to make sure a few things.
  1. Is your SD card formatted to FAT32? 32 k (or 64 k) cluster size is recommended.
  2. What's the path to your HBL? I hope something ilke sd:\wiiu\apps\homebrew_launcher\homebrew_launcher.elf (or *.rpx)?
  3. Do you have WUP Installer GX2 there as well? If not, download it as I wrote above and put it on your SD card as well. Should be something like sd:\wiiu\apps\wupinstaller\wupinstallergx.elf (names might differ, look into the downloaded archive).
  4. The HBL channel goes into sd:\install\hbl\[multiple files here] => then it appears in WUP Installer GX2 and can be installed

It was sd:\wiiu\apps\homebrew_launcher\homebrew_launcher.elf, just tried to use browser to launch and now it's telling me it cannot load.

Which means I'm screwed, the only way I had access to that SD was through FTPiiu and my phone. I do not own a computer or OTG cabl8 so I assume that means I'm locked out.

Okay I know this might sound very odd to you but: Could you try another SD card? It happened multiple times, that for any reasons, a SD card that seems to be working fine isn't working as intended in the Wii U. So if you have another one, please format it to FAT32 and try it as well. It doesn't have to be big as the HBL is pretty small.
