Absolutely.

Goes from the nastiness that Americans call mayo (we will not denigrate ourselves by considering the yoghurt based white/cream colour condiments) through English styles through Dutch styles, then to Scandav up to the glory that is Salad cream.

Also getting far more mileage out of this than I thought

Though much like most things "learn the level above what you want to do" is a useful thing. In this case chemistry of food and flavour profiles (how to mix and match, the general groupings and so forth) are good, learning how to twist what you have in the cupboards into something else also works well (though depending upon how bad you are at cooking right now that can be harder -- if you don't have all the ingredients to make pastry or some form of dough in your cupboards at any given time then... yeah, exception if you can make curry which is a different thing. If during all this you can have some idea of proper nutrition that is good too. In my case I also have access to a nice collection of cook books covering cuisines from all over the world and history.
