So a few months ago i tried softmodding my 3DS and things lets just say didnt go as planned.
So i downloaded the following mods onto my SD card and started following some generic tutorial on YT:
-MenuHax
-SafeHax (Where the proccess failed)
-IronHax
-TW_Loader
-Homebrew channel

I am not quite new to the modding scene since i have a hardmodded WII and a hardmodded Xbox360. But i havent yet failed so hard as i did on the 3DS. When i try to turn it on just double black screens appear and the blue light flashes for approx. 2sec.

So i wanted to ask nicely if anyone has any answers on how to atleast start repairing beacuse i tried a few things and nothing has worked so far. I have access to soldiering tools and such if anyone has any ideas im willing to try anything. And i can provide the files from the SD card if anyone needs them any help is appreciated.

P.S. I know im an idiot for not doing a SysNand dump.

Sincerely, Ekeloperz

First, we need to point out that hardbrick means hardware damage and softbrick means software damage. Either cases can be fixable or not fixable depending what's wrong.

Did you ever physically damage your 3DS by dropping or bumping it against something? These types of actions can lead to hardbrick.

Or, did your 3DS randomly stopped working one day despite having done nothing else other than use it normal?

***

Which exact video tutorial did you use?

For future advice, don't follow or rely only on video tutorials because a lot of them are outdated and some don't warn you the risk of performing the more advanced homebrew techniques. Cross check using 3ds.hacks.guide and GBAtemp search tool.

It has software damage i didnt drop nor physically damage it. When i tried hacking Luma3ds onto it i failed at safehax install and i dont know why it froze for about 10min then turned off and i couldnt turn it on anymore just the blue power light flashing for approx 2sec and ofcourse as mentioned double. And i was following a guide on 3ds hacks guide cant link the exact site

Are you sure you didn’t install b9s or a9lh something? Sounds to me like you did, but there’s no payload on the SD card (or in the NAND). Or the payload can’t be read from the card.

  1. Copy everything off your SD card onto a computer.
  2. Reformat the card as FAT32 + 32 KB cluster size with either Windows File Explorer or guiformat.
    • Optional: You may reformat in 64 KB cluster size if the card is 128 GB or larger; 64 GB and smaller need to stick to using 32 KB cluster size.
  3. Full Write + Verify Test the empty card with H2testw. Do not skip this test.
  4. If the card passes, delete the *.h2w test files.
    • If an error is reported, stop the test. Replace the hardware failed card. Go back to step 1 or 2.
  5. Download the CFW starter kit found here. Do not use files from your main setup for the moment.
  6. Insert the card into 3DS. Turn on the system and hold (Select) to access Luma3DS v9.1 configuration.
    • For default setting, select only (x) Show NAND or user string in System Settings.
  7. Press (Start) and hold (Start) to access Luma3DS chainloader and boot SafeB9SInstaller. Press the <Left> <Down> <Right> <Up> <A> combination to update to boot9strap v1.3. If the update goes through, you should see "SigHaxed FIRM install success!".
  8. Exit this and hold (Start) again to access GodMode9.
  9. Press (HOME) → Scripts... → GM9Megascript → Scripts from Plailect's Guide → Setup Luma3DS to CTRNAND, etc.
    • This will update your CTRNAND so you can boot without an SD card.
    • If you wish to later clean up your Luma3DS chainloader, you can delete *.firm payloads by pressing (X) on files at:
      • 0:/luma/payloads (SD card)
      • 1:/rw/luma/payloads (SysNAND CTRNAND)
    • For the time being, worry about this later. However, keeping GodMode9.firm is recommended.
  10. Update your 3DS firmware to 11.8.0-41 11.9.0-42 if it's not on the latest already:
    • HOME Menu System Settings → Other Settings → System Update
  11. Once things are all set, delete the (empty) Nintendo 3DS folder and add back the one from the main setup.
    • Adjust adding whatever else files you have like game roms from emulators, themes, splashes, etc.
  12. Backup all your saves and extdata with Checkpoint or JKSM. For instructions in how to open Homebrew Launcher:
  13. Backup your SysNAND image and save this somewhere on your computer or external drive.
    • GodMode9 (HOME) Scripts... NANDManager <X> Backup SysNAND <A> yes etc.

i know turds advice sounds complex i also know it works (its step by step all the precautions you should take not just for this process but in case anything goes wrong at any point with your console you will have a restore point) just take it a step at a time if you have questions along the way just ask

Try reinserting the card several times if the SD slot reader isn't that great or is going bad.

You can also try reformatting the card with MiniTool Partition Wizard (free edition) with these settings:
  • Format: FAT32
  • Cluster Size: 32 KB
  • Partition: Primary
  • Disk: MBR
MiniTool Partition Wizard Software Tutorial Guide
  1. Delete Partition
  2. Initialize to MBR Disk -or- Convert GPT to MBR Disk (if it's in GPT Disk)
  3. Rebuild MBR
  4. Create a New Partition [ Create as: Primary | File System: FAT32 | Cluster Size: 32 KB ]

***

Can you type out the youtube guide, like this: www . youtube . com / skj33lnjf ?
It would help figure out what kind of troubleshooting you would have to do for the outdated hax.

Do not use Minitool's cluster size changer. That feature is a PoS when setting up the 3DS SD card.

If you need to change cluster size, follow the instructions from post #7. Substitute the program in step 2 with MiniTool as per post #16.

Edit - I see what's the problem from this tutorial:

You installed A9LH which was the predecessor of B9S. You need to follow this guide:
