TX Presents 'Happy SX Halloween' v2.2.1 Update

It is October 31st, and Team-Xecuter Announces a 'Happy SX Halloween' update which is packed with treats and some new tricks for SX OS users to enjoy!
SXOS221.jpg

It may be trick or treat day in most places in world, but for Team-Xecuter it means being hard at work while eating candies and treating their loyal SX OS users with a nice new update to their CFW for Nintendo Switch consoles, and this one is packed with goodies to munch on as you answer the door to all the little goblins and witches looking for treats themselves, so enjoy and Happy SX Halloween!

Today, we are back with another release of SX OS beta! This update addresses some of the excellent feedback we've had following our v2.2 beta release. We can't thank the community enough for continuously identifying small issues and notifying us about them. Keep the feedback coming!

Now without further ado, lets have a look at the list of changes:

  • Support for *big* USB drives
In our last announcement we bragged that you were able to enjoy TERABYTES of content, which was technically correct.. but in practice you were still limited to USB drives with a capacity up to 2TB. This is now a limitation of the past, as you are now able to use storage devices with a capacity of up to a PETABYTE!
  • Fix USB disk directory scanning
Due to a small bug in 2.2 beta the subdirectories on your USB disk weren't being properly scanned for content. This has been fixed and you can now rely on the same subfolder structure as on your microSD card.
  • Fix USB ethernet and keyboard support
The introduction of our USB disk support apparently broke support for existing USB peripherals that were supported by Nintendo's firmware. Fixed!
  • Add USB drive write support
We have enabled write support for USB drives. In practice for SX OS this means that NSP files can now actually be deleted after installation. But this also serves a greater purpose.. keep reading!
  • Eject gamecard on USB eject
When you disconnect a USB disk while in the main menu the (emulated) Game Card will actually be ejected now. A small detail, but a nice addition nonetheless.
  • Improved LayeredFS support
LayeredFS suffered from incompatibilities with certain games, this has been addressed and fixed. If you find any more problem titles, let us know!
  • Add support for temporarily disabling LayeredFS by pressing X while launching game/application
If you want to skip loading your LayeredFS patches you can now hold the X key while launching a game/application. The game/app will start normally without any patches applied.
  • Further improvements to overall system stability..

.. and other minor adjustments to enhance the user experience. You know the drill! ;-)

Last but not least, we have some cool news for homebrew devs. We are releasing a little library called `libusbfs` that allows your homebrew to interface with USB disks very easily. You can find the latest library code on our website in the downloads section! We are looking forward to popular homebrew apps adapting support for USB storage.

That's all we have today. We get many questions daily about supporting "patched" switch consoles. We are working hard on a solution. Stay tuned, friends!

--< Team-Xecuter - Rocking the Switch in 2018 and beyond! >--
From everyone here at GBATemp, Team-Xecuter, MaxConsole, we wish you a safe and Happy Halloween, enjoy! :)

oh boy oh boy... Now we just need someone to make an nxshell alike app with this lib, so we can transfer xci files from hdd to sd. Go go go

I honestly just made a homebrew app because I wanted it. Granted it does not look flashy and limited to just copy files over for now (no deleting) I was not sure if people wanted this or not.

Do people really want this?

Mine just keeps on crashing when scanning the hard drive. I have tried a powered one and a non powered one.
I started with 3 folders sxos/xci, sxos/nsp and switch with all the updates and dlc.
Could it be too many files? I went down to 2 folders but that didnt help.

Edit: switch is 6.0.1 and using sxos 2.2.1

In case anyone wants to know I have managed to fix this. It's not ideal but it works. I removed the folder with all nsp files in it from the HD and just left the folder with the xci files. No more crashing!

So it seems there is still issues with 2.2.1 as far as folder structure and scanning too many files.

Hopefully with it being beta it's still being tweaked and they come out with a better stable release.

I just came back from the store, I bought USB-C > USB A female adapter, to test directly my USB key on the switch, it doesn't work either, so for me it has nothing to do with my USB key, it has always worked, repairs dozens of PCs with it,whether in ntfs, exfat, fat, fat 32 format or any cluster size

just fucking the sxos driver which is rotten dot to the line, as much in the lottery as in looking for a hdd compatible with this sxos 2 shit.2.1 here I am,
I'm not a noob, rarely ask for help on a forum, I have my pride, but here I just tell the xecuter team to go back to work to provide us with something that works 100%
I'm not going to reformatted my 2tb maxtor usb3 ntfs in exfat hdd, where my xci and nsp switch games are stored, in exfat just to test this shit that doesn't even certify that it will work, shit to do other than tinker with this shit for hours tchao.
I have a post here on another thread
But it's clear that sxos has done some shit here, when they say beta version, the word beta has a great importance for xecuter.

I don't think it was many at all. About 90 all up, including updates and dlc. I have moved them to the sd card while keeping xci on the hd and no issues at all.

OFW 6.0 + SXOS 2.2.1 = Flawless Victory!
NSP and XCI loadup without any issues. Thank goodness that I never have to remove my microSD from Switch anymore; it was pain in the a$$ to remove the microSD card every-time to loadup new nsp and/or xci...

Of all the things in this world to worry about
Maybe you need some friends
??? If it works for you so much the better, this is a beta version, isn't it? What does that mean for you?
Why so many messages here saying it doesn't work! At least not for everyone, so it's a beta and I'm waiting for a stable release, if you don't understand it's not my problem, sxos is not free, it's not open source, and this feed doesn't exist for nothing, in short bye friend, friends? I have what it takes, thank you.

If you read thru this thread and the previous one, you will see 90% of posts in regard to 'not working' its not really SX OS fault, but the 'way' or 'type' or 'make' of the external HDD.

When you dealing with a new addition its, not rocket science when it comes to USB HDD working, compared to MicroSD, with MicroSD you only have three basic issues to rule out, 'fake/bad card' or 'corruption caused either by buggy exFat (Nintendo's Official Driver)' or 'corruption caused copying via PC to Switch either thru card reader or FTP program'

When it comes to dealing with USB HDD working, there is so many different variables, makes of drives, Samsung, Toshiba, WD, etc. and power rating of drives from few hundred amps to large power sucking ones, usb 2 drives vs. usb 3 drives. vs. usb-c drives, connections via either back usb 3 switch dock port or the other 2 usb dock ports, or directly connected to switch itself, using otg-3-c cables or usb-c inline direct. -- Then there is dongle used to run SX OS, some people are using SX PRO, others have installed 'dongles' inside those depending on how they are powered can cause issues also as they still active sending signals on usb data lines while the usb hdd is trying to get attention to the switch to be scanned, etc.

So as you can see there is many factors above, which is all nothing that TX or SX OS can do about it, you will someday see the same rate of failures, and tried when another CFW supports USB HDD, maybe a little less by then, as people will have hopefully research what SX OS users went thru and see what drives, and connections, etc work.

Hello. Hello.
Ah finally someone reasonable here, of course I'm aware of all this, that's why I say buying an hdd for the switch is a lottery, the problem is that if a simple brand usb stick recognized as verbatim doesn't work, how I'm going to buy or find an hdd that might be suitable
, as I say ,it's a beta, there must be the code has improved, like the one hdd watch, which is a problem for some users, I also have a hdd maxtor 2tb, but it's ntfs, not wanting to try, I have to format everything, and that's where I store my switch games, in short, more than waiting for the list of supported devices,
I've already seen this with other usb loader on other console (PS2,and WII) but never my verbatim key has Refused to operate except here.

Otherwise I have a sxOS pro with dongle, it already eliminates some problems.
Thank you for your answer, which is much more pleasant than some people here.
See you soon
For the stable sxOS 2.2.2 we will see.

You have success with your hdds, but no verbatim or maxtor marks here, just to see if there could be succees.
:shit: :whip:

Oh yeah WiiUGold
I see your avatar, you have an advanced sxos, maybe the reason for your success with hdd usb

Marvel dragon
I tried the 3 usb ports on the dock, I also bought a usbc > usb a female, to test on the switch directly, nothing works, except the message, you have to install the games at the root no nsp installable blablabla in the sxos install tab

XCI on the HD works fine. All I have to do is wait for the scan process to complete the bottom right. Before, no XCI is loaded. Is similar with you, that each time the HD must be completely scanned? Stupid is only that the Hd is always started in sleep mode.

Yeah same issue. I'm hoping that they can add some sort of quickload database with the option to to scan for new/removed files

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

450 xci files takes over 2.5mins to fully scan

This update has been working great for me so far.
Just want to check if this is the correct set up to ensure I don’t burn the USB port on the dock? The unplugged usb part goes into the dock.

Just a random thought, I wonder if with the addition of USB storage support we will see a hardware revision with an a micro SD slot in the dongle for additional storage "on the go"

I went back to 2.2 because it seeemed more stable for me. Got random game crashes with 2.2.1
Installing via usb is great with my 1tb western diginal essencials.
I find bad the lack of option to avoid firm requierement. I installed Grim Fandango yesterday and inmediatly asked for a console firm update. This should be off by default.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.

I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
