PPSSPP emulator updated to version 1.7, adds simple Discord integration

unnamed.png

Five months after their most recent major update to version 1.6, the team behind the PlayStation Portable emulator, PPSSPP, has issued a brand new update. Version 1.7 is out now, and makes some minor changes and improvements. For those on certain Android phones such as the Galaxy Note 9, device-specific crashes have now been resolved along with problems that occurred on the GPD XD. As far as most users are interested, this update is a minor one that makes stability improvements and bug fixes. Final Fantasy Tactics also now finally plays audio correctly, a notable improvement over older versions. Out of the full changelog, shown below, perhaps most users will find the new simple Discord integration the most interesting feature unique to this update. We may joke about stability, but if you’ve been having any issues with 1.6, it’s advised to update due to the amount of fixes. If you’d like to check out the latest build of PPSSPP, you can grab it at the source link.

>How about adding native PSX games support through PBP files?
-Fuck no

>How about Discord integration?
-Top priority

Seriously, I can't understand this.
I can't get why they consistently refuse to add PSX PBP support to PPSSPP, but still find a way to make things like this priority.

Why would you want PSX compatibility when there's already PS1 emulators out there? That's what I don't understand

Because people are insatiable, needy crybabies who want everything their way. If they want PPSSPP to run PSX, they can do it their damn selves.

Because the original console was capable of running them.
It's like developing a GBA emulator and stripping out GB/GBC support just because you don't feel like it.
Sorry, but this is not a fully accurate emulator when the developer refuses to make sure the emulator runs as what the console was intended to.

That's not a valid reason for such an entitled demand.

I can definitely agree, and PPSSPP is such a good emulator, that I'd want for it to be able to play PS1 games as well. But on the other hand, the devs have created one of the best emulators out there, and really, that's all I could ever want. It's their project to decide on. PS1 support would be amazing, but I won't ever expect it.

I can understand the reasoning behind it. It's kind of like if Dolphin wasn't able to emulate VC. You're losing functionality of the console. However, to come out swinging like this as if it's a life or death situation is boggling. We have PS1 emulators, so those will work until support is added, if it ever comes. If not, it doesn't matter as it's not our project.

It's their choice, who are people to demand what they should or shouldn't program? They're doing this for free, no? But I don't get why people use Dolphin to run VC games, when dedicated emulators of those selfsame consoles do a much better job.

What I want to know is if this Discord integration will allow us to host adhoc lobbies in it. :o idk.

I finally 100% SM64 on VC through Dolphin. Not a fan of Project 64. :x

There are far better emulators than PJ64 you know. Sadly the Wii VC's N64 is grossly inaccurate, can't even emulate the invisible Mario effect properly. There's a version of Mupen64 that emulates most games with near perfect with little to no configuration.

I highly recommend this: It's far better than PJ64 and a shitload better than VC emulation could ever achieve. At least this doesn't jack up DK64 with using garbage linear interpolated audio.

Do you not lose dual analog and 2 shoulder buttons on the PSP though?

I should have mentioned that by running VC via Dolphin, you're unnecessarily increasing overhead for additional system requirements (MIPS to PPC and PPC to x86-64) when PJ64 and hell, even Mupen64 with GlideN64 is lost costly, but far more accurate.

I'm aware. I just used it as it was option and I was lazy..

No, I appreciate that. Haven't used mupen in years.

It's gotten pretty bloody good, arguably one of the best N64 emulators. Used with GlideN64 (not to be confused with Glide 64), more accurate emulation, even Resident Evil 2 and Indiana Jones are playable. Those two games use heavy LLE microcode, so they're a nightmare to emulate, but on this? They run fine.
