The Switch is an indisputable success, although that doesn’t exactly mean it has reached its full potential. Nintendo was planning to only put in 2 GB of RAM until Capcom and other publishers begged them to bump it up to 4, and that seemed to have saved the system, without that addition it may not have been able to even run a game like Rocket League. But what about the opposite, what if Nintendo had found a way to squeeze in 8 GB into the system? How much different would it be? How much more powerful would it be? Would it receive more third party support or would Nintendo still be shunned as a kid company? What do you think?

Nowadays talking about gaming, ram is not the most important factor, rather GPU VRAM, and Clock speed of gpu and cpu. 4 Gig can get you pretty far.

Ram is not the bottleneck on the switch. Highly doubtful literally any game would benefit from more ram that can actually play on the system.

The console would be the same except slightly more expensive.

Sharper textures, but that's about it.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

They already run too hot for their design. I say this as a guy with not one, but TWO bent Switches from extended docked play sessions.

Switch runs rather cool for a mobile chip, the bending is unrelated to heat.

Plastic starts to bend at 100°c+, Switch shuts off long before that.

If water starts to evaporade first at 100°c why does my laundry get dry if I leave it in the open?

Switch undocked is pretty fine, when its not docked it gets pretty hot tho.

Water doesn't start to evaporate at 100 celcius, it starts to evaporate at anything above 0 celcius. Also it's a liquid. Also, it's not a plastic that has little to no known way to degrade without external influences. Also, your switch should never get to 100 celcius. If it does, something is wrong and you need to send it back to Ninty.

The bend wasn't caused by heat. I wish people would stop saying so.

No its because the heat, the plastic is melting and bending in the end, some Switch start cracking and other bend even the motherboard, hope this gets fixed in the new Mariko Batch.
My friends have bend switch but its okay for them.

"Mario Kart 8 DX" could have 1000cc races!!

The limiting factor with this isn't console power.

It's how well you can play when you go from 0 to 200 in a tenth of a second and how well the game works out when you can't comprehend what's going on for a number of reasons.

If you know how to pilot a supersonic oceanliner, you'll have the mental capacity and the driving skills to play 1000cc Mario Kart. Probably.

I support anyone who wants to make this a reality though. Because apparently somebody did it with mk64...

MK64 isn't really the best example for this due to the ways the characters float. If he could do it in a newer game, like MK7, I'd be impressed

Then how do you explain the devices that come out of the box pre-bent? You think Ninty is purposefully bending units with heat then just selling them anyways? No.

It's most definitely an issue with the plastic warping overtime. Could be because of the material or something to do with the QC testing in factory. The heat might even be playing a "role" in the bend, but it is NOT the sole cause. I can almost guarantee that you couldn't think of any other reason except "it gets hot when i play so that must be the reason".

I'd say that it'd only make a difference for a game/emulator that's particularly demanding in terms of RAM usage. VRAM is important to be sure, but you'd be surprised the difference 4GB of RAM could make when it comes to desktop PC. (Had some cheap-ass G.Skill RAM fail on me once, was left with only 4GB until I got higher quality Kingston RAM for 16GB of RAM)
