In Steelminer guide it says this -
“Start the game once and select a Mii to initialize the save. Do not update the game when asked!”

Sorry, but what game?? I’ve followed the guide from Frogminer and at no point has it asked me to install a game??

Why in the world do you think the subject would randomly shift to a different game in the middle of the guide?

As far as installing a game, this is at the top of the steelminer guide:

It was even mentioned in the Frogminer guide that linked Steelminer.

But it says that I need this file as "srl.nds" and bcuz it's copyrighted I need to find it on my own..

Do not read frogminer's instructions, that is not the guide. Look at the first post of this thread for instructions "FrogminerGuide", it says nothing about finding srl.nds.

Thanks a lot for this guide. It worked without problems for me, on a new 3ds XL in stock form (no CFW previously).

There was one strange moment though (not directly part of this guide - but in section II - updating the system of the Finalizing setup guide).
After I did the system update, it said system up to date, and I rebooted the system. It then didnt boot at all. Black screen and power LED flashing up once. A couple tries later it got stuck on black screen and power LED ON.

after a couple of tries and re-seating the SD card it finally booted back up - fixed itself.

Oooh boy, this here's my chance to install cfw without any purchases. Thank you so much for having us an opportunity of having us a free alternative in cfw installation. I do have to ask somewhat related/off-topic questions may or may not be related to the topic:

- I currently have a 4GB sd card and have around 200mb free of space. Am I able to install and use frogminer at the moment with my current sd card or should I wait until I buy a bigger sd card?
- Also, I noticed that Section VII of Finalizing Setup does a cleanups to a sd card. What does it really cleanup on? I currently have some installed games and other things I would like not to be deleted if ever I switched to a bigger sd card so I'm worried about that bit from the guide.

I would get a bigger sd card, I didn't have anything on my 4gb sd card and now I'm needing to upgrade because there isnt enough space for games. Cleanup just means that all the files that are installed once done installing (fbi, anemone, homebrew launcher, etc) will be wiped clean from the sd as to not take up unnecessary space on the sd card. At least that's what I think.

The biggest thing to download is Steel Diver: Sub Wars – but you already have this; you mentioned you already use steelhax. But you should definitely get a bigger SD-card. 4GB is almost nothing nowadays. Please do not skip the NAND-backup. You need about 1GB for an old 2/3DS and about 1.3GB for a new 2/3DS. So using your small SD, you would have to move some data temporally.

Pretty good question – IMHO. Running a random script from somewhere on the internet without knowing what it does is always a risk. But luckily you can just read the “GM9Megascript” and see for yourself – especially the part for the cleanup. Just look what files it deletes. It will not delete games or photos or any random private files, you placed on the SD-card. It's only to tidy up a bit as it removes files that are not needed anymore after installing CFW.

Not if you've patched it and deleted the backup. But you can restore it with a cia (after you install cfw).

Either download the magnet link from plailects torrent feed. "DS Download Play - v1024.cia"

Or find any firmware pack and extract

Then install it with FBI.
