Yes, you read right; the PlayStation 3 received a new firmware update. Version 4.83 is available to download for your PS3 systems at this time, offering more stability for your console. Full details are not known, in regards to what changes this makes to exploits or homebrew, so if you value keeping your system hacked, please do not update until more information is made available. The previous firmware, 4.82, was pushed late last year, on November 14, 2017, and the past three updates have purely been about increasing stability. If you enjoy incredibly stable PlayStation 3's, feel free to update.

Beginning October 11, 2018, we have started updating to update PS3® body functions. In this update, the system software version will be 4.83, and the following functions will be updated.

UPDATE: PS3exploit has been patched by the firmware and no longer works.

Aren't there any flea markets or swap meets where you live? PS2's are a dime a dozen at my local swap meet.

There are flea markets, but they're on the order of weekly at best and far enough away I might only go to one every couple months at best. They also don't have PS2s regularly AFAIK.

Oh yes the vita is very good, i didn't like the limitations of the vita tv though. Compatibility for vita games was very limited, with homebrews you can apparently fix that. Also, i absolutely love the ps1 emulator on that thing, it is so much better than the ps3 one

nintendo released an update on one of their dead consoles (wiiu) so sony had to do the same

Really hate these useless firmware updates without any new features. I had to update my PS3 a few weeks ago because it wouldn't play Blu-rays otherwise I'd not have bothered.

I do wish my PS3 was hacked but I rarely use it, anyway.

Keeping mine on 4.82 (Rebug) obviously - no reason to update... although, does 4.83 break PSN Store connectivity for non 4.83 systems? No great loss if it does, as I rarely use it.


I'd say that anyone with an original phat PS3 should be avoiding using it as a bluray player anyway - it's the biggest contributor to the overheating and failure of those older models.

As far as I can see the only offline version requires you to run a web server on a network your ps3 is connected to.

There actually is a unofficial mod for han toolbox that should work offline, i haven't tried it yet but i will install it shortly, i'm going to disable internet on my ps3 so there is no risk of accidentally updating it

I find a mac filter on the router is better than disabling networking completely, as you can still access DLNA etc.

Of course this new unofficial offline exploit won't work if you update to 4.83.

4.82 is easy to get cfw on. Just follow almost any guide you can find.
