If the Switch is patched and you try to send a payload, nothing happens. Its basically the same as an unpatched console in every other way.

Basically, there's this really weird gap between XAJ70043 and XAJ70055. XAJ70043 are orange because very early on there was a lot of overlap between these serial numbers but I don't recall ever seeing a number higher that wasn't patched. So based on this knowledge, its safe to assume that your serial number is patched.

As explained, very early on there were several patched and unpatched serial numbers that began with XAJ70043 hence why its listed as probably. However, because there hasn't been a report of any serial numbers patched or unpatched until XAJ70055, its a good bet that anything with XAJ70044 and above is patched but we don't have the solid proof. You're free to take that chance to be one of the first to uncover a serial number between these 2 numbers which will lend us more data on where the cutoff is but at the very least, it begins at XAJ70043; serial numbers higher than this only have an ever-increasing chance of being patched.

Serials beginning with XAW7:
XAW700178X and below are safe to buy
XAW700179X and above not safe to buy, probably patched
XAW70019X and above definitely patched
check the first post but I believe they are all safe, where do you live?
