Hi all, I'm looking for the best way to setup my Switch. I've done a bit of reading, but I want to make sure my understanding of things is correct. I have two Switches, one to play online with, and one to mod. The problem is that my main Switch (The one I will use online and was a release system) is currently on 6.0 and has all my save data. Is it possible to get into my Switch, backup the NAND, dump my saves, and then restore the NAND? At that point, I would be able to load the saves onto my hacked system? And will that allow me to still use my system online safely? If getting this saves puts my system at risk in anyway, they aren't crucial. I can live without them, but they would be nice to have.

Otherwise, I plan on keeping my other system in airplane mode and exclusively using it offline. I have a 1.0 system to use as my spare. Should I update it at all? If not, what's the best way to run games on it?

Thanks for any and all help.

I really do not like when people create a new thread mere moments after posting elsewhere...I'm just going to copy and paste my responses (as well as yours) from the Noobs Paradise so everyone is on the same page here.
If you're going to backup the NAND, then you can just restore that NAND before you go online and dump the saves via homebrew. That is because a clean hack-free NAND is pretty much the best way to avoid a ban.

As for your 1.0, the best firmware for CFW is currently 5.1. However it would be a waste to update it normally so I recommend using the homebrew app ChoiDujourNX to update without burning fuses so you can return to firmware 1.0 in the future.
So just making sure on a few things:

1) NAND backup/restore has a limited amount of uses, correct? Basically since you're rewriting the entire NAND, this isn't the healthiest for the system... This is why I'm planning on just using two Switches. So my process for my main sytem (The one to keep clean) would be RCM -> Backup NAND -> Install Homebrew -> Backup Saves -> Restore NAND. This method should leave my main system clean and intact, correct?

2) As for the second system, I would then do RCM -> Backup NAND -> Install Homebrew -> Use ChoiDujourNX -> Restore Saves. Then is I ever want to restore NAND, I can restore to my clean 1.0 FW, correct?

Thank you for the help, I just want to make absolutely sure what I'm doing is correct. Thank you so much!

  1. You will likely never reach this limit in your lifetime. We're talking doing multiple flashes a day for several years. A couple of flashes a month will most likely not lead to permanent damage. However flashing something to the NAND still carries an inherent risk
  2. Yes, you can also downgrade using ChoiDujourNX as well since it can install any firmware you provide it

I wouldn't do any nand restoring or anything like that because right now we don't even know if nand restoring will actually prevent you from being banned or not. I would just not worry about the saves for the time being.

You've had to be living under a rock with that statement.
