Saw this on twitter a few days ago but haven't seen it discussed here yet.
people are apparently replacing files in undertale to play other games made in the GameMaker Studio 2 engine.

Youtube comment that i dont know is helpful or not: "So are you basically just replacing Undertale's data.win file with Crashlanded's? Either way, that's rad."

a game called bartbwitch being played

i don't know the exact steps needed to do this, and i don't know of any games made in that engine that are worth trying, but im sure this info has to be useful to someone right???

Didn't know GM:S had Switch support, I thought the whole thing had to be ported to another engine/language. The thing is, there might not even be a YoYoCompiler for Switch yet, or it exists but is in beta and unstable/buggy, so maybe he had no choice.

I wouldn't exactly call it an exploit, you still need a hacked system to do it, but it is for sure a flaw in how the runner works, since not everyone is supposed to be able to just run anything they like on any platform, you have to pay extra to run stuff on other platforms than PC.

Fun fact, the same thing works to get Undertale running on Android.

Correct me if Im wrong but could this be the next Cubic Ninja?

Presuming you mean hacking potential, from what I understand, no.

At best this might be useful for some kind of warm boot if other suitable exploits exist and you have another way to access the FS, similar to Haxchi and it's installation.

As it is, this is just a way to potentially run other games on the same engine.

Correct me if I'm wrong though.

No. You're still sandboxed and this still plays by those rules, and if all it took were editing files to run in games, you could have done this with any title because we can alter game data for any title (see: various mods that already exist).

This is interesting, imagine tho this is the same as lets say you had super Mario oddysea, but you swaped the game files to Mario kart, the thing is that you can't put a keyboard game onto a switch game, because the controls won't magically just work, the weird thing is if there was a game maker game that you could preload, if so I'd guess you could probably play the preload early.

Tldr: You can't play any game maker game on the switch because it wasn't developed for the switch, but there might be some coincidence where it works.

Rivals of Aether on the Switch still in 2018? Not bad.

Wouldn't really be optimized for it, this only works for swapping one game already built for the Switch with another, or if you're a poor dev who can't quite afford a kit but wants to test their work somehow before committing to ordering a dev kit. Which, the former, is really a novelty. If you're that intent on playing the games you're either buying them or you're pirating them regardless and may as well get .NSPs because it hardly matters at that point.

The dev kit angle is technically not kosher, either, as Nintendo could potentially black-list you if you do it and then try to get a kit from them, same as when using a leaked kit to 'test' early.

As the first tweet picture in the OP says, this an "exploit" more for novelty than any real function.
