OP
I tried google but I can only find people who charge $200+ USD to mail my expensive possession to them to perform a very cheap and basic task, and only offer this overpriced service in countries I don't live in.

I'm just a student in a remote country who wants to solder a capture board into my own N2DSXL.

old 3DS XL

new 3DS XL

Here's a google image search of what appears to be an old 2DS with a Katsukity capture card.

Part of the reason why this mod is expensive as crap is that video capture card companies like Katsukity do not believe the typical 3DS users interested in their products have the skillsets in installing them, probably after too many warranty complaints and credit card chargebacks.

If you're as good as you say that you are, you'll have no problem figuring out the video output pins to solder and retrofitting a kit for another 3DS model onto your n2DSXL.

If you don't want to pay the 200+ cost for a capture card installed. You can always wait until the 3ds and all variants enter EOL, then see if the price drops for a capture card. Katsukity is pretty much the only person with capture cards for the 2DS XL. Loopy's promise of N/2/3/DS/XL boards are more or less looking to be an empty promise, and that was 4 years ago.

Your attempt at eliciting sympathy is not going to help you. Getting a capture card installed requires money.

@TurdPooCharger
Katsukity doesn't sell the capturecard by itself, even if you asked him too.

I'd figure this much after google searching for the kit by itself with nothing turning up, but I think I remember they used to be sold?

I wouldn't too if I was in Mr. Katsu's shoes from all the headaches dealing with said 3DS customers who messed up their installs.

It use to be sold, the problem was the high return rate and high install failure rate of the people trying to to buy just the kit. Then Kat just basically said fuck it and said no more kits only purchases, hence the send in your handheld for it to be installed option. If I remember it correctly that was like 6 months after demoing it on the 8bit forums and put the kits up for sale, that was when all the dumb people tried to get a refund because they can't solder good enough. Reason I labeled these people dumb, is because the majority of them more or less destroyed the kits they got.

The original kit had 100+ solder points and you had to remove alot of plastic.

Even if I had $200 USD, there's still the matter of sending my console overseas. If a lot of people kept messing theirs up, then I can see why it's like this.

I'm not trying to elect sympathy, I'm being realistic.

The reality is there are alot more than just the 220 pricetag. There is the shipping cost for shipping the unit back to you, that is 29.99. Your going to have international fees applied (your bank or card service will charge you this, depending on your card used you might be charged currency exchange fees as well), this fee is about 2% of your total cost. Your looking at somewhere around 260 after all the costs are pilled up.

If you got a N3DS XL, the capture card for that is cheaper than the 2DS XL capture card.

Handhelds with the card pre-installed pop up on ebay from time to time. So there's always the option of purchasing that and selling your current one to mitigate the cost.

The vast majority of 3DSes with "capture cards" on ebay are labeled with wireless and are more or less ones with CFW installed with streaming enabled or preset. Your paying a premium for what you can get for free with time, effort and whatever sized SD card you can afford.

Do be aware that those 3DSes on ebay might already be banned units.

Yes, like anything on ebay read the description and ask the seller before you buy. When it arrives make sure everything checks out, if it doesn't ebay and paypal will certainly refund you and make you whole.

Same goes with most things on there these days, have to read the description to be sure of what's listed, ie; sellers selling an empty box.

I didn't take the time to go through all the listings, but I saw one listed as having a katsukity card. Just have to remain vigilant, and wait for those who've grown bored of the novelty to put their old units up.

Older 3DS XL model with IR left in.

The price gougers only show up when there is a backlog for capture card installs or when the capture cards are no longer being sold. They tend to go for north of 700+ on ebay. Last time I saw one sold went for 950 or so (this was when there was a large backlog and turn around time getting a capturecard installed took 6+ months).

I don't want to replace it, I like the one I bought. And I don't want to softmod, especially after last year's banwave.
