This is something I saw on osu!'s forum today and thought would be really useful to implement here as well.
If a thread hasn't been replied to in a while (say 2 weeks or a month), this ticker will appear above the quick reply textbox. It won't prevent you from posting or anything, but will remind you not to post if you don't have to.

Original on osu! forums:

It wouldn't hurt to have something like that, especially since I keep seeing people posting on threads that have been dead for more than 5 months.

Correct. If they don’t know to look at the date before posting, they will probably not read this warning. Just tap in the reply box and fire away.
I imagine people are less likely to ignore a big banner above the reply box than they are a tiny date under the title of the thread.

I personally wouldn't mind it. Nothing is lost with a quick simple reminder though I do hope it doesn't actually discourage people from posting something that may be beneficial.

I support this idea fully but will miss posting holy necrobump batman in every necrobump I notice lol.
This will definitely not eliminate necrobumps fully. If anything, you can tell the person how much of an idiot they are for not noticing that glaring banner.

Good idea. Would perhaps be good to have a small warning at slightly old thread, and a more prominent warning on even older ones. :)
how is that at all a good idea? So if somebody has a question about wiiu hacking or even wii hacking they get penalized because most of those threads are old? I don't see the logic here.

What if someone is necrobumping a thread because they think if they make a new thread the persons question will be ignored instead of posting in a already well established thread? Just curious.

What? How are they penalized? He means a larger warning "banner" for older threads, not like, a warn-warning.

No you misunderstand :) a warning as in a text piece that warns the user that the thread is old, not that the use gets a warning point :)

The same goes for you, it's just a warning text, not a warning point.
If the member thinks like you just said, then he read the warning and made an informed decision to bump it anyway for the reasons you write, and that's fine :)

sorry I misread. I could have sworn I read a warning counter for how many times you necrobump. I need to drink my coffee. lol

so it actually is a great idea.
