TX Announces SX OS v1.9 with more v6.0 support and 'Update SX OS' feature via Switch

Team-Xecuter is back again with yet another update to their SX OS. Check out the latest changes below with their new v1.9 update:

SX19.jpg

For one they have finally added one of the top requested items, 'Auto-Update', so you can now finally check for and directly update your 'boot.dat' (the SX OS core) right from the ease of your Switch console, no more ejecting the MicroSD and copying over the new file on your PC/MAC and at the same time they have also improved both the FTP and upcoming v6.0 support for when Nintendo finally does roll-out the new firmware. :)

While we're all still waiting for Nintendo to release the much anticipated 6.0 firmware officially, we decided to do another SX OS update with some useful and exciting fixes and changes.

Our v1.8 release had an issue for the early adopters of firmware 6.0 where the web applet would crash. This has now been resolved!

We also have some good news for the users of the builtin FTP server: stability and speed of the FTP functionality has been improved.

One request we've been getting a lot since the start of our continuous stream of SX OS updates is a method for updating SX OS from within SX OS itself; saving you the hassle of having to swap your microSD out and into the switch all the time whenever we bring something new to the table. Good news! This will be the last time that procedure is needed!

With SX OS v1.9 we introduce our brand new "Update SX OS" functionality. This can be invoked from the menu by selecting "Update SX OS" in the "OPTIONS" tab. This will perform an OTA (Over-The-Air) update using the WiFi connection configured on your switch. If any new updates are found you will be prompted to install them. Enjoy!

Thanks for your continued support and feedback. Have a wonderful day!

Look, being a developer myself I know the urge to impose conventions upon others. But then again I'm using Chrome which is now at 68. And when was the last time you, as a end-consumer, saw anything changing in Chrome? So, if that's their version pattern so be it, there are other projects which don't follow the Major.Minor.Patch convention.

Good point, and TX seems to think they have to go from 1.9 to 2.0, which would indicate a major release. However they could just go 1.10, 1.11 etc.

Question, question! Do anyone know how OTA updates work? Till now, I did the updates via FTP, because everything is loaded to ram memory. So replaced boot file, restarted switch e voila! Updated. My main question is: With the new update feature it will be still necessary to restart?

Thanks.

Yeah, I won't bother updating until I absolutely have to update switch to 6.0. TX will just release another update in 5 seconds anyway, no point in bothering.

6.0 isn't even officially out, so there will obviously be several more updates.

Will this work on banned switches... speaking off bannings can you release an update to unban switches or is this not possible

You should be able to use a SX Pro on a banned Switch, no problem. You may need to use something like 90DNS to trick the console into thinking it got a response from Nintendo's servers so you can get an IP address and use the FTP server and OTA update.

As for unbanning... that's not possible. At least not for the foreseeable future. I won't rule out the possibility some clever person may figure out a way at some point in the future, but don't expect it anytime soon, or ever.

Is it possible yet to make the SX payload automatically display the menu without holding R when using AutoRCM?

AFAIK if you are using the dongle it autoboots into cfw if you are on autorcm when pressing nothing, I saw users that were complaining that the wont display

For me, the fact that hekate lets me load other payloads without having to hold a button is a real positive.
Have you requested the option from TX? They may add it as an option if more people request it! For me I don't mind, I haven't booted another payload since launch.

From the looks of it, TX no longer distribute SX as a full payload.bin anymore. Instead, the payload.bin simply redirects to the boot.dat containing the actual firmware. Previously the whole thing was also distributed as a single .bin. Is it confirmed that TX have indeed scrapped this?

Probably because they were reaching the payload size limit so they did what all other bootloaders are now doing and split the payload into primary & secondary components. Although I believe this was always the case as they never updated SX OS Loader but only ever updated SX OS (boot.dat).
