Developer of Eve Online, CCP Games, has been bought out by Pearl Abyss for $425 million

Eve Online is an MMORPG that launched over 15 years ago, in 2003, which found success in the time it's been on the market, especially after it became free-to-play. Its developer, CCP Games, is known for being the largest game studio in Iceland, where they've been focusing on VR titles lately and making investments in other projects that have not been successful. It seems those failed titles have caught up with them, and that the company needed to turn to a larger studio to take them in, as it's now been announced that CCP Games has been purchased by Pearl Abyss, who produces their own MMO; Black Desert Online. Pearl Abyss paid $425 million in order to fully buy CCP Games and make it into a subsidiary.

According to both companies, Pearl Abyss will allow CCP to continue its operations, meaning Eve Online will continue, and that they'll be "integrating" CCP into "all current and future projects". The press release states that the buyout will be complete later next month.

Pearl Abyss is a fast-growing company with lots to offer in terms of technology, capability and vision. I believe our two companies have a lot to learn from each other. We are very excited to join forces with them and achieve great new heights for our companies, our games and – above all - our players.

Like CCP, Pearl Abyss also have an incredible passion for creating virtual worlds, and their mission is to create the best MMOs in the world. I can think of no other game developer whose aspirations align more perfectly with our own, and we’re very excited to see what our joint future holds.

for reference on those who are not in the BDO loop. there is a subset of people as of the more recent patch who are leaving the game as the game inched closer to the p2w mark that people are comfortable with. So proceed with caution if you don't have a wallet(not like eve isn't a wallet breaker already at times)

"where they've been focusing on VR titles lately"
For a company that is famous for creating a game based around business nous they sure do lack it there.
