I meant more like games that use more not the 3d, but are 3d as in, super mario 3d land has levels you can play in 3 dimensions like 3d world, galaxy, sunshine and 64 while New Super Mario Bros 2 is 2DNo. 3D does not affect performance (framerates etc).

Thanks for elaborating. Enabling it might actually suit me more, as I rarely run out and always charge it. Even got usb cable for the 3DS and an extra battery lol. The PSP reference was quite relatable.with respect to battery usage, I see that is about the same as enabling 333mhz on my pspgo, translated to time is around a little less than half hour less of battery.
the benefits outweigh the extra battery as that half hour of battery give 2 things. reduces loading times so you can continue playing faster and spend less time waiting ,playtime would be around the same as you lose half an hour but you also get better framerate in games that suffer from performance issues.

Note that of course the system is going to use more power when plugged in and running off of AC or at least I'd imagine that it would. Also please note that I did not disable the l2 cache as I didn't see a reason for doing so as the major voltage is going to be from higher clock speed. I'd imagine from my own testing that what you're talking about is the power difference between either having Power Savings on or turning on the 3d on the console. So we're talking about ~10-20% increase in overall power increase. If you're not currently using powersave I'd say that you should enable it and will mostly mitigate the additional power draw.I had the sytem fully charge and used a usb multimeter to get my information on the system itself. I did both homescreen, and in-game tests with ntr 3.3 sound didn't seem to make much of a difference. My multimeter goes to 1/100th of an amp so maybe it's mattering but not 1ma more draw over standard.

sleep mode seems to draw ~<1a total wirelss/nfc off.
wireless on adds ~1-2a it seems in total.
When in sleep mode with wireless on it randomly has peaks of 0.11-0.12 so it clearly does drain the battery even more but the overall differences dont' seem to be that much in total at least from what I can quickly measure.
I let it sit there and waited for it to stick kinda steady before I wroet down the numbers.
Now then this is of course through the usb cable's power reaading and who knows maybe it's less on the 3ds itself when it's not on AC but I know of no way get more accurate information.
All numbers are in amps to get ma multiply by 100 aka .2 is 20ma.
The game was puzzle & dragons z super mario edition so more likely than not new 3ds exclusive games or for example hyrule warriors/smash are probably going to up the ma draw up some more but this should provide a rough guideline for everyone.

tl;dr section
So to do a tl;dr for you and others. 3d on has similar power increase to changing the system to 804mhz+l2 enabled. If you always play with 3d disabled you won't notice it much. If you enable PS mode you can negate the power increase. Overall I'd say that the increase is ~10-20% from the stock settings in most games. At the very least _always_ enable the l2 cache as load times are always reduced by ~15-30%.

I believe that's how it manages to reduce the power, it says simply "reduce backlight based on what's on the screen." You're sacrificing some color detail when enabling it, but unless you've got a system that has great lcd with black being real black I doubt it'll be noticeable. For me it's worth the increase in battery life. Generally you're talking about ~10-20% if I remember right from my battery tests I did years ago.
