Shovel Knight gets new local multiplayer battle mode: Showdown

IGN has exclusively lifted the veil on Yacht Club Games' newest mode for Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. This new game mode, Showdown, lets players fight it out against each other 1v1, four player free-for-all, or with each other, against AI enemies. There's 16 different characters to play as, on multiple new stages with brand new composed songs to go with it all. The previously announced King of Cards expansion is still slated for future release, as well, and will be the final campaign update to the Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove lineup. Showdown will launch for $9.99 for those that don't have the Treasure Trove version, or will be a free update for those who do. Every existing version of Shovel Knight (including Wii U) will get this mode, with the exception of the 3DS and Vita versions. A launch window date of 2019 was given.

Kind of weird that people want this local coop mode for a handheld.
It makes sense not to put it on the vita or 3DS, since that'd require integrating netplay on top of it.

Looks pretty good though. Just about anytime I hear about this game the devs have gone and added more content, very cool of them.
