OK so I dug up my o3ds and decided to update the thing to b9s, I was using the old spider method before.

It is on 4.4 and I followed plailects guide on using soundhax, downloaded all the right files and got in to safeb9sinstaller.
It went through all the checks then the button prompt came up, after that it said it had installed b9s sucessfully and that it would reboot.

But it didn't reboot, it just turned off. Now whenever I turn it on the blue led comes on for like 2 seconds then off again.
I know that this happens when boot.firm can't be found but that's not what is happening.

If I remove the sd card or use a card without boot.firm on it the led goes out faster in about 1 second, so I know it's something else going on.
It occasionally keeps the blue led on until I force shutdown, but the screen never comes on and I can never get into luma config or gm9 or anything at all.

I'm at a total loss here, can anyone help? I've tried a bunch of different sd cards, using all the latest files and following the guide to the letter. Never had a problem with my other systems, even back when you had to downgrade n3ds to 2.0 to get otp. So I'm completely baffled by this. Oh and battery is fully charged so it's not that. (would be red light anyway if it was)

Would appreciate it, thanks

Despite your tests with and without the SD card, the blue light is indeed going on and then off because it can't read the proper boot.firm file. The speed difference with vs. without an SD card is normal.

Reformat the SD card using SD Formatter and redownload the Luma3DS boot.firm.

I suspected it might have been reading the card.
I've already used the formatter and redownloaded the boot.firm several times.

I did it again just now and still nothing. I literally can't do anything with the device itself, not even get to recovery mode. Kinda annoying cos I followed the guide exactly and have somehow ended up with a borked system.

Out of curiosity, which specific version of boot9strap did you install?

Latest version for now which is 1.3
In the event that you're actually bricked, perhaps due to B9S being installed from a corrupted SD card, you should be able to recover the 3DS using an ntrboot-compatible DS flashcart. Did you check the health of your SD card before you followed the guide?

Which edition of boot9strap 1.3 did you install?

Yeah my card was all good when I checked it, I wiped it before checking and then used it in the 3ds to restore the nintendo folders before trying soundhax.
And regular version of b9s, I'd edited my last response but guess I was a bit late, my bad.

What happens when you hold Start + Select + X on boot with an SD card in the 3DS? Are any new files dumped to the SD card?

When holding the button combo, the light stays on, but turns off again when I let go. Doesn't seem to dump anything to the sd though.

Oh hold up, tried the button combo with one of the other sd cards and it's dumped my otp, boot9 and boot11 bin files to the b9s directory (the firm_0 and firm_1 files too, but those two where already dumped when installing soundhax)

You have B9S installed successfully. The problem is your SD card and/or the boot.firm file on the root of your SD card.

Ok so any idea how to know which one is the right one? I'm assuming it must be a problem with the boot.firm out of the two since I've used several different sd cards.
The boot.firm I have right now is luma 9.1

Luma3DS v9.1 is the correct version. As a matter of troubleshooting, you could also download GodMode9, rename GodMode9.firm as boot.firm, and put it onto the root of your SD card.

Right done that, is it supposed to boot to godmode? It still just turns off again, or stays on while I hold the button combo and thne goes off again.

There's almost certainly something wrong with the SD card and/or the ability of your 3DS to read the SD card if it's not booting directly into GodMode9.

How did you reformat the SD card?

How did you reformat the SD card?
I used SD formatter to format my 2 smaller cards to fat32 default cluster size (32k). My main card is 64gb so formatting this way results in exfat, so I used easus partition master to format that card to fat32 (which is what I did back when I first got it for the 3ds).

I formatted the 64gb one again to fat32 after the last one set it to exfat and now it can be read again and I get my otp and boot file dumps with it, but I've got 3 sd cards here and they can all get detected by my pc and all get the file dumps when holding down the button combo.

So if I can get my boot and otp files, then my b9s is definitely installed right? And it is writing them to the sd cards so the 3ds card reader must be working, unless somehow it messed up when using safeb9sinstaller and somehow only writes files but can't read them or something like that.

B9S v1.3 is definitely installed, yes.

Did you actually install and use the SD Formatter program? You should use it to do an overwrite format. Your description sounds like the default formatter that comes with Windows.

Yeah I used that one, the panasonic SD Formatter (at least that's what it used to be called), I haven't touched the default windows format tool for years. I might have only done a quick format though not sure, I'll run an overwrite format and see what happens, hopefully something.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Still nothing, can get my file dumps but nothing else. So confused by this whole thing.

I have a nand backup, no hardmod though. But I feel like it wouldn't make much of a different anyway if it has installed b9s properly anyway.

Please send a picture of the contents of your SD card.

This is how it looks after following the soundhax guide, I put all 4 of the godmode9 folders in after using just the bin as boot.bin didn't work.
