But are actual firmware files a thing you can download (like iOS, for example)? I've never come across one...though I've never looked.
What's the file extension for a firmware update? That's all the information I need.

It's gonna suck for atmosphere users who waited so long just to get banned lol

Not every atmosphere user cares about online. And while Atmosphere hasn't TECHNICALLY been released yet, it was the basis for both RaiNX and RajNX which still has a ton of users and most of them haven't been waiting THAT long. longer than SXOS users obviously but still not THAT long

Most people using only cfw+ homebrew (atmo is designed for that, forget the layered fs backup bullshit) never got banned. (except apparently 1 person who cleared their log on 5.x)

And it's the same thing for all cfw

It's really not. The fact is, we don't yet fully understand Nintendo's criteria for bans. Hell it could be as simple as them detecting that you booted your system from RCM

You could also just sell the Switch, people will still buy it, and then buy a new one for like zero loss. If you don't actually want to pirate you have options to not do it.
Who's gonna buy a Banned Switch? Lol

I literally got banned after I installed an NSP of a game I already own, and updating it did it for me... they are very strict this time around... unlike Wii, WiiU era!

If you wanna be a fraud their are tons of ways to sell your banned Switch, esp it’s a new thing unlike PS3/360 days. That’s why I guess the whole ban wave is going to give Nintendo a headache too

A game you already own... Cartridge or eshop?
And was it your own dump?

Tho it still surprise me...Where you banned while playing online? Did you play your own game online already or not?
Any info could help (they still can ban you for everything tho, cause NINTENDO)

If he installed an NSP, then it wasn't his own. NSPs have to forge fake tickets to be installed, so there's no way to tell them apart from genuine piracy.

He probably owned the cartridge, and rather than dumping it, installed an NSP.

This won't cause Nintendo an iota of concern or trouble. Retailers/second-hand buyers might care but then they could also track you down for retail fraud.

Retail fraud over a 300$ electronic sounds mighty stupid.

I bet Nintendo was waiting until they determined the number of unpatched units in the distribution channels had reached a certain level then BOOM! Expect to see a flood of Switches up on eBay by tomorrow.

Drama queen alert...

This sucks.

I CANT GO BACK!
I CANT GO BACK!

This is a sad day for the scene.

I wonder if this was caused by ppl taking the new cert and putting them in the old Bob that allowed parallel downloads, or just too many ppl.

The scene that started 2 days ago? This is fine, you will survive. And what did you expect? People to only download one "free" game per day and be patient? Just too many greedy clowns everywhere, so not a surprise at all.

That's exactly what I did!!! I have Xenoblade Chronicles 2, I downloaded the NSP and installed it (stupid me having XCI dump of my own game and SX PRO) just for the sake of testing Tinfoil and then I forgot I was in hack mode and went ahead and updated the game. It was an NSP and I updated while on atmosphere sig patches. Perfect recipe to get banned. Oh well.

There's another way to do this without anyone being scammed(kinda) but it's still very illegal so I can't just post it, it's the same way people used to get around Xbox 360 bans.

What does that have to do with the update files needed for ChoiDujourNX? All it takes is for someone to legitimately obtain such files or extract them from a cart dump and then upload them to one or more of the usual warez sites.
You can already find all the firmware files online, or extract your own.

I'll give you a fiver.
More seriously we had a discussion after the first bans hit ( https://gbatemp.net/threads/the-value-of-online-play-to-you.505503/ ). Plenty of people did not care, especially not for Nintendo's online offerings. While it would be hard to argue it is not worth less than an unbanned machine it is far from worthless.

The swap and return routine is well known.
