I live in Canada, so prices are higher. Tax for me here is 13% (I won't do the Alberta thing). I would like a game that has customization. Level editors I really like. I've been doing lots of surfing on the eshop, so far n++ seems pretty good. Neurovoider looks neat but I don't know if I like that genre or not. I need some help here. :)

Get a SD card, and something to put your switch into rcm mode, if your scared to stick something in your switch, buy a jig, piracy will lead to a online ban tho.

Don't know why my post was deleted, I was serious ( @Chary ).

OP, When I was 13 I transferred newspaper bundles out the back of a 5 ton truck at 2am on the weekend. If I were you I would take your money and invest it into making more money. Then you can buy many games, but if you are still intent on blowing all your cash on one game that you aren't even sure you will enjoy then may I suggest The Binding of Isaac, or Yodanji.

Stardew Valley, Elder Scrolls V (or buy on pc if you want easy modding and keyboard/mouse control), or Dragon Quest Builders.

Well where me and my mom live it wouldn't be safe to do any jobs. My birthday is on the 31st which is near school, so I get my presents early so I have lots of time to play with them. Also is Yodanji basically Pixel Dungeon and Pokemon had a birthday? Looks cool.

dude if the guy set aside a budget for a video game who is to say he needs more money. setting aside a little bit of cash is already being responsible.

They said free alternatives, whether you like it or not is a different question.

Even then, people may put up with 'extra steps' if it saves them money.

Did I ever said I am not liking the cheap **s alternatives/poor man's solution? Nothing is "free". Those extra steps costs extra time and time is money.

Well... SX requires "extra steps" and "extra time" compared to just going to the eShop and buying the game... That's a thing.

Not complaining, just pointing out the fact that those "free alternatives" do not match SX OS.

And my point is that people may not care for the extra time required if it saves them actual cash.

I don't know how long it takes, but if we were talking e.g. 10 minutes worth of work, I'd gladly put up with the cheaper option.

Show me one that can play NSP and XCI without any extra steps.
I downloaded ReiNX yesterday. Only had to drop the files on the SD and was able to install and run NSP files without any extra steps. That was a 30 second effort, considerably less than what activating SX OS took.
I have replaced all my XCI files with NSP files (every.single.one), no need for SXOS anymore.

So, yes. It is an alternative and unless you already have a huge .xci collection you want to use, you can instead go for ReiNX and get .nsp files instead.
